I'd just use the anti-theft mode as valet mode
Your idea of fast must differ from mine somewhat. Either way, you can have your tuner set it at whatever rpm you want. If you want a lower rpm, then just set it lower. And of course, if you have your own copy of Osiris, you can adjust it yourself. Personally, I'm comfortable with 3k rpm. It's very rare for me to trust my car to a valet at all. But if I were to hand my car over to a valet, I want him to be able to drive it safely, which means having some leeway to actually move the car. I just don't want him taking it out for a joy ride doing WOT acceleration runs is all.

Default This happened to me too - damn valet!

I took my wife out for our anniversary to L2O in downtown Chicago (which is a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant and just about the most expensive place I have ever been). I had the car valeted and when we pulled out, I had this same problem. Something was seriously wrong with the car! I drove 1/2 a block and then I turned around and went back to the restaurant. I told the valet that something was wrong and he agreed and said he thought so as well. He also said that he had a hard time finding reverse when retrieving the car (which must have caused the problem). He didn't really offer me any solutions, so I went back inside and spoke with the manager. The manager came outside, inspected the car, and told me, because there is no physical damage to the car, he didn't see how the valet could have caused any damage. He took NO responsibility for the car and told me it must be a manufacrurer's defect. I was shocked. At this point, it was about 2 AM and we had been arguing for 30 minutes. I was about to call a tow (and I should have called the cops), since if they did screw it up, I wanted it taken directly to a dealer. I decided to try to drive it around the block, just to confirm the issue - no problem.

I'm happy that this wasn't something serious. However, the moral of this story is don't valet your Z and don't eat at any Lettuce Entertain You restaurants. I can't believe how they treated us.

It got me too yesterday, I was driving in 1st and 2nd gear inside an apartment complex, and all the sudden I could not rev pass 2000 Rpm, it puts me under 1500!!!
Outside temp was 94 and my oil temp reading was 220.
Had to stop for 15 mins and no problem after that.
Weird I thought limp mode is 270's?

Even that the problem seems to get resolved on his own. It is not a bad idea to reported to the dealer so they can put it on your Z records for future reference.

Everyones mistaken here to the cause.

AK is just getting old is all. Everything "seems" fast to him now and above 2500 would make him soil his depends!

I agree. My 7 auto has done a little of this kind of thing, but only two or three times. During those times, I was doing something "not normal."

After the 2nd time, I wrote it off to the computer getting screwed up, by something I did that the computer did not like. It always corrected itself.

These computers are doing one hell of a huge job, and some weird little thing can cause things like AK described. I'll wager that it will never happen again, as long as you don't do something that the computer wasn't programmed to handle. And even if you do, chances are that it will repair itself quickly, just like AK's did.

The scan can not hurt, if it only gives peace of mind.

Conclusion, I don't think there is anything wrong with your Z, AK. in fact, sounds like your Z's doing just what it's supposed to do. First, save the car from damage, then 2nd, it repaired itself.

I just hate going to the dealer. And for something like this, the first thing they will do is "test drive" the car. I am VERY reluctant to hand over my keys to one of their 17 year old high school drop out "tech".

I think this happened about 10,000- 11,000 mile mark. Today, I have about 21,2xx miles on the Z and I HAVE NOT been able to replicate this again. So, it was just a one time thing. As I have said before, I thought I was in first gear (but I was actually in 2nd gear). I pushed gas pedal too hard which triggered this. Usually in 2nd gear start, you have to slow throttle it.

P.S. Please note this happened on 12-14-2009, 02:52 PM . This is an old thread.

I've never seen this issue come up. Don't recall it ever with the 350Z either. Any chance the Synchro-rev match computer had anything to do with it?

Wonder if starting off in second gear set up a situation where you were lugging the engine and that tripped the knock sensor, so it switched to limp home mode.

Well in my situation, I was literally driving less than 10 mph on 1st and 2nd gear inside the apartment complex for 10-20 mins (damn the apartment hunting).
Driving with slow speed on low gear can cause this to happen as well?
Well, I'm bringing it to nissan this weekend.

It happened to me today. I have the 7 speed automatic. I was on the highway and accelerated to pass...then it kicked in to limp mode (could not rev over 2500). I pulled over and shut the car off. When I restarted the problem was gone. I only have 1800 miles on the car and the oil temp was 220. This has me worried.
