The way I see it is we have been sending a lot of our industry to other countries, which helps them. We also important their goods with no tariffs, which also helps them. These same countries do little to nothing for us. They impose huge trade tariffs on our goods in their country, which largely keeps our goods from being sold in those countries.

Now if we can come to a deal that is mutually beneficial, then maybe imports won't be marked up for sale here in the US. One hand washes the other kinda thing.
