Default 6 M/T w/ Synchro Rev match reviews

So here's my situation. I have a 2012 Touring A/T with paddles and Rev matching with 85K. Absolutely love the car but am torn, considering trading it in for a 2017 sport 6M/T with synchro rev match. I was wondering if anyone has a review on this transmission, likes, dislikes, etc.

The Z is my DD and i drive in moderate to heavy traffic 5 days a week. Looking to "downgrade" to the sport cause I realized I don't need all the bells and whistles that come with the touring, plus I like the front end of the 2017 better.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I manually rev match in my other car, but its far too convenient to leave SRM on in my Z. I like the manual transmission in the Z. It's a little slow at times, and particularly hard to nail 2nd gear under hard acceleration, but when you do it's pretty satisfying. Overall it has a very mechanical feel. Clutch engagement is a little high for my liking, but its not difficult to modulate. My Z is manual, touring, and sport so it's not the perfect example of what you're looking for, but I can say that if you enjoy driving a manual car, you'll probably love driving a manual Z, with or without SRM.

I love the AT, play with the shifters not often, city traffic with a clutch is a PITA...Id love the Touring for the leather/heated seats even though it never really gets that cold 3 mos. of year.

Since you are use to the auto id say you are gonna miss the automatic especially if a majority your driving is heavy traffic. Personally id still go with the manual(rev match synchro helps a ton in traffic). But if you do get the manual I would HIGHLY recommend you get the RJM clutch pedal, the stock clutch pedal sucks and has absolutely no feel. I guarantee you will be regretting changing over if you choose to keep with the stock pedal I almost sold the car because of it. Transmission is okay and comfortable for a DD its really subjective but I prefer my transmissions to have a very solid feel/short throws(spoiled by s2k). I have the TWM Short shifter/Weighted shift knob and its a great combo if you want a precise mechanical feel, it improves the transmission IMO. Id also factor in a possible CSC failure(you will have to put money aside for when this fails). In short I love the manual its very engaging especially with the upgrades and if you love rowing the gears like me id say you should do the switch.

I drive in heavy Chicago traffic all the time with a manual. No problem at all...in fact I find shifting gives me something to do and so it is less boring than an auto. I have a winter car that is an automatic and I find heavy traffic actually more frustrating in it. Most of the time in stop and go traffic, I just let out the clutch enough to get the car rolling and stick it in neutral and coast.

the manual trans is pretty good with the exception of some notchiness on the second. it does get a bit better once warmed up.

I've owned 2 370z's so far. The first being the base model 6 speed, and I currently have a 16' Sport 6 speed with Rev match.
Both cars have these issues:
-Loud throwout bearing when sitting in neutral (Nothing to worry about, totally normal for these cars)
-Second gear is notchy, and higher RPM shifts from first to second will sometimes grind even when the clutch is pressed in fully. (Could be me, but I've never had this issue in other sports cars I've owned)

Even with that, TOTALLY WORTH IT! The rev match is amazing and it will make you smile every time you get in the car. I live in Cincinnati and the traffic here can suck pretty hard sometimes, heavy traffic and the manual trans is still pretty tolerable.
There's nothing better than hilly curvy roads with the manual trans and rev match, you'll feel like a race car driver and it sounds awesome too! LOL.

Rev match is nice, don't get me wrong. However I keep it turned off and rev match via my ear and engine load. 2013 6mt NISMO.

Everything you said is true, especially the fun of rowing those gears.

My understanding about the noise and notchiness are just the design of the transmission. Perhaps different trans fluid may help a bit. I have Neo and it is pretty good. Trans is quite smooth once it is warmed up under normal driving condition.

And the rev-matching is wonderful. I thought it only works during down-shift at first but it works up-shift as well. you can shift much better from 1 to 2 if you consider that.

I actually really like the Z's manual. I have owned a few 370Z's (too many... I keep trying to leave and it keeps sucking me back in) and I've never had an issue with the 1st to 2nd shift at redline if I didn't rush the shift. Shifting smoothly but quickly, it works fine. Slamming it into 2nd like you're going for the best ET at your local drag strip might be different, but I don't know, because I don't drive the car like that.

Honestly I think the Z transmission is quite good; it's the clutch slave cylinder which you have to watch out for.

I would say if it's a fun weekend car then definitely the Sport package (and definitely a manual!) vs. touring wins, since you can't get both anymore (except used) but since you say it's a DD I'd say stick with what you have, unless you really want a manual transmission. Actually if I were buying a Z for mostly DD duties, I'd probably pick the touring with a 6 speed, but for your use there's nothing wrong with an automatic.
