The fact they are a two-seater and small trunk space may be the practicality factor, but still. Quick cars. Great handling. Just an interesting thought that is an ever going debate I am sure.
2 seaters in general is a luxury. people like us have multiple cars and a garage so no issue but for those dat have a family and can only have one car, pretty much useless.

Very good point I would not have bought this as my primary and only car.

It's too competitive nowadays, and hence its "obscurity." All the car makers can meet or beat the Z, and at the same price point. Only hardcore loyalists/fanboys will stick with the Z.

I instantly fell in love with the 370 when I first saw it in '09. I thought it was gorgeous, and still do today. But it's long in tooth. Time for a new Z with at least 400 hp. 332 hp isn't enough anymore to be considered "big horsepower."

370 ownership is close to becoming much like that of the of the 350 imo. Being a 2 seater at that price it initially lends itself to only a few demographics, those with the expendable income for multiple cars/weekend sports car, those just beginning to make good money without children yet, that niche crowd who's been dedicated to the Datsun/Nissan performance lines for years, etc.

But as the model sticks around too long or just gets old, the prices get so low that the spoiled teens to early twenties demographic not needing extra seats starts buying up all the early years models and as that happens you start to see them on the roads everywhere. Then come all the wrecks and increased premiums for the model... Nowadays I see a decently large percentage of 350 and 370z owners in alot of the cities I'm in are of that younger demo. The 370z isn't rare on the road at all imo.

Honestly, I have not seen a lot here in the DC area during my commute. I have yet to see another Roadster that's not sitting on a sales lot.

I saw more s2000's out on the weekend than the 370. infact I saw 1 370 parked in a garage. 2-350's that same day. 2 s2000's. a lambo, 2 911's, some other lesser porches, an m3, m6, a handful of mustangs and a flock of toyobaru's.

I think it's pretty rare of a car considering the occurrence I see them vs other 'nicer' cars.

I slow down an downshift into 2nd so I can roar through underpasses.

I like to take corners with a bit of spirit.

I like to hear my clutch clickity clack and the gravel kick up under the car.

Yea we're a niche. but that's the fun part. there's no fun being a sheep following the herd. bahhhhhhh

I also don't think they have the historic prestige of some other cars. Guys who have been into racing forever understand the history of the Z, and maybe it's history as the poor mans race car hurts it a little. The fact that both Steve Mcqueen and Paul Newman chose to drive them at certain points in their racing careers attracted me when I was younger, and still makes me love them a lot. So to guys just getting disposable income the BMW or MB looks like a better status symbol than the lowly Japanese sports car, which they don't understand changed the shape of the import market.

Real drivers want a car they can feel @ one with. Real drivers want to feel connected to the machine... NOT many people get that concept. Hence the popularity of muscle cars.

The Jeep Wrangler always gets horrible reviews for pretty much everything, but is still the most iconic 4x4 out thete because of what it is and not for what it is not.

The Z may not be as iconic but the following and feeling are the same. Hell, I got props from a Jag type Fs convertible owner at the detail shop last week. I was drooling all over his car and he was doing the same with mine . He asked me how much hp I had and I told him and he was like...wow do you need all that and I like no but it's fun. We both laughed...
