I've driven a lot of crappy FWD cars in the snow (read: snowy weather, not like 4 inches of snow on the roads) and have had no issues. Although I was told growing up FWD cars actually handle better in snow, my 72 bug that doesn't have many issues with a little snow...and it doesn't have the VDC system the Z has.

What makes this car so bad in a little snow? Obviously driving around all winter in Maine, with feet of snow piling up around you and gallons of salt destroying your undercarriage, it's not the ideal situation, but a tiny bit of snow can't be as bad a little rain, can it?
Oh, man! This reminds me of the time I was down in Savannah at my parent's place. Savanahh got hit with two inches of snow for like the first time in 100 yrs...it was chaos. It looked like a scene out of Mad Max lmao.......................

PS - your old beetle does well in snow cuz the engine is over the drive wheels, dig? And don't forget de skinny tires!

Yeah, Fort Gordon got 2 inches of snow and shut down for 3 days. Complete chaos!

Beetle with snow tires ftw! trust me, I is a Northerner and I is a skiah!

I fondly remember the time a buddy of mine decided his new '84 (I think) RX-7 was a good ride to VT as a ski car. Ya, he bought a ski rack that suctioned onto the passenger windows and everything.

We still talk about how many times we had to push his *** out of drifts, up hills........and the very famous time he gunned the engine in a puddle of slush while being pushed by Big Jay Walsh. Big Jay was NOT happy.

Oh, to stay on topic: I plan to buy winter tires, though global warming has been in full effect in New York City recently... temperatures in the mid to high 60's?!
I bought winter tires too, but have yet to put them on. I was planning on installing the winters this weekend, but it was too nice out. It must've been damn near 70 F yesterday and today. My plan is to wait until the daytime temps drop to 40 F or less. At this rate I might have an unused set of winter wheels by next spring.

As far as winter driving goes, I had a '76 Chevy Monte Carlo in high school. I'll bet that car with the 350cid, racing cam, straight pipes w/ glasspacks, and 275 B/F Goodrich's handled the snow much worse than the 370Z with winter tires will. If it's bad out, I simply won't go to work, and that holds true whether or not I would drive my 370Z or if I owned a snowmobile. Well, maybe not if I had a snowmobile, but you get my point. The worst thing you can do though is drive with the summer rubber on snow or wintery roads.
