VOTE for the 370z to be the next car that gets brainiac!!!

There is a thread on this in the AV subforum, but it doesn't get as much traffic so I hope the mods will allow this thread to stay here...
check out the thread on the AV subforum here:
http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/1...-10-1-kit.html

Braniac is an android powered radio/GPS/HVAC/OBD2 info/control system similar to what Tesla's come with... They currently have a poll on their site for which car people want them to set up for next, and the 370z is in a dead heat with the WRX. VOTE!

here is the link:
Progress Update: Poll – Which vehicle is next? | Workshop 12

I contacted them about preorder discounts (they had a sign up a while ago but it is now closed) and they said they might be able to do a group buy.

Here is what it would look like:
https://workshoptwelve.files.wordpre...geps.jpg?w=960

There is yet another thread in the AV forum about what asorg31 is building.. similar type of system. Check that out here:
http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/1...een-setup.html

And lastly... VOTE!!!

When developed, how easy is this to install? Is this just Plug and Play?
Will any radio installation place be able to do it without any issues?

Surprised the WRX boys aren't banding together, but they're probably too busy calling each other homosexual slurs and making wild accusations about the sexual promiscuity of each others' mothers.

My name is Tim Neil and I'm one of the co-founders of Workshop 12 where we want to bring the latest concept/connected car technology back to the cars that we own and love. Really modern technology and style, but in a way that looks like the car should have come this way from the factory.

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about Brainiac. We haven't set ourselves up as a vendor as of yet, so I'm unable to post links to our product website. I want to make sure we follow the rules.

We're looking at expanding our snap-in kit line up to 6 additional vehicles this year and are working on figuring out which vehicles should be next. We already have 3-4 vehicles on preorder now (Scion FRS/Subaru BRZ, 05-07 WRX/STI, 02-05 350Z) which we are targeting for a July delivery date.

Here are a couple of pictures of Brainiac prototype installed in a 02-05 350Z:

Will u be eliminating the climate control knobs? I would love to have a little storage area there for cell phone/sunglasses.

I have few questions.
1. Do you have to use google maps for navigation? I prefer using Waze, google maps isn't bad but I like many of the features in Waze.

2. ODBII, I use a Bluetooth ODBII adapter and the Torque app. I like having less cables can I use the Bluetooth adapter for data? Also what PIDs/Sensor inputs can the Data logger read? For example right now I use AFR, Intake Temp, Coolant Temp, Catalyst Temp, and Throttle Position.

3. Can I use Pandora with it?

4. What features are locked out when the car is moving if any?

Yes, we would be eliminating the existing climate control circuitry. The version of the 370Z that comes with no navigation (empty cubby above the stereo) has standalone electronics for the climate control. The version that has the screen in the "cubby" area has the climate control circuitry integrated with the stereo controls. Which means we would have to replace that circuitry.

We figure we might as well have one solution for the 370 that replaces the climate control to keep things simple.

We haven't performed the 3D laser scanning of the 370Z dashboard to really know just how much room we'll have to work with. So there's still lots to be figured out around screen position and then what that would mean for the remaining area below our screen/buttons.

There may be a significant amount of room where a pocket would look good. But at the moment we are unsure. Which is why we just left that area in the photoshop solid for now.

As we start the process of 3D scanning, sketching and designing a dashboard we post up all of our revisions/options to share with the community to gather feedback on what is going to be the best design that the community will love :)

1) How easy is this to install once the unit is developed? Is it plug and play or do we have to have a background in electronics and a Masters in head unit installation?

Please elaborate.

You can choose any mapping solution you like for navigation. Brainiac runs Android as its operating system so you're free to download any Android navigation app you like :)

We have a "T" connector that goes behind your dashboard for OBDII data so that we don't block your port or have a dongle down by your knees. So we have a consistent wired connection and your port is still free. We can data log any of the OBDII standard PIDS. The only limit is the number of PIDs your car supports.

Absolutely

We do not lock features. We leave it up to you to be responsible for obeying your local distracted driving laws.

Brainiac comes as two different options. (1) A standard 7" double-din stereo replacement and (2) A 10.1" snap-in kit for certain vehicles.

The installation process for the 7" is the same as a standard head-unit replacement. The 10.1" installation is the same as the 7" but with the added extra need for you to remove the existing climate control and plug our climate control unit into the existing factory wiring harness plug.

So with the 10.1" kit, instead of purchasing an aftermarket double-din installation trim kit, you will be using our provided plastics to secure the screen into your dashboard.

Our snap-in kits are designed to utilize factory clips and mounting points to make the installation process as simple as possible. We want the installation to be a DIY that your average handy person can accomplish. If you aren't handy, a local stereo installation shop will be able to do the work.

We'll be providing "How To" write-ups and videos for each vehicle.

Awesome. Thanks for answering my question.

Curious as to a price range.

Also, is it named after the Superman villain?

7" double-din unit goes for $699 USD
10.1" snap-in kit goes for $1,399 USD

We also have a relay accessory that allows you to automate different systems of your car and an air suspension accessory that allows you to get rid of your existing controller/dongle and plug into Brainiac to control your air suspension from our touch screen. We can also trigger relays and air suspension presets based on GPS and/or OBDII data readings :)

It's not really named after the villain.. but we wanted something to represent the central brain for automating your vehicle. I'm also a super big Batman fan and actually have my very own 1989 Batmobile that I've built for my own enjoyment. If you Google "BatBerry" you'll find my build blog :D

I did post a reply.. but I think because it had dollar signs in it, it will need to be reviewed before it shows up in this thread.

Best thing is likely to check out our website for that information.. and if the moderator approves the post it will show up here :)
