ZdayZ survival guide

Locked in my camping spot for ZdayZ today and started thinking, this will be my first multiple day car show in almost a decade. It will also be my first multiple car show that isn't for hot rods or mini trucks. So my question is for veterans of this expedition what are the must haves and need to knows about attending? I know it's 4 months away still but I'm pretty excited and I'm a long term planner. Hope to see some good input.

Zoren 370 01-13-2016 06:44 PM

Bring lot of cash for gas.

No signal in the mountains Verizon is a good option.

Flashlights, tools, extra motor oil, snacks, water

Drive safe excercise caution on the dragon as the dragon bites hard in return...do not drink and drive, meet good people.

I am planning to go. Is any place in particular that every one is going to meet or stay?

Also follow the Zdayz Facebook page, there will be lots of discussion in the upcoming months on things to bring, updates, and general discussion.

Yep! And they've updated the webpage too. Here's the FAQ page - https://zdayz.com/event_information/faq/

Registration isn't open yet, but they're shooting for January 15th.

Can't wait! :excited:

Check the nearby hotels and motels, when the time get near some would cancel their reservations or sell there's.
Some would open a thread looking for someone to share the room with. No worries plenty of options.

I got a place about 15mins from Fontana. Been staying there for the last 3 years of Zday.

Fontana opens reservations for guests attending ZDayZ immediately following the event for the following year. On June 1, they open reservations to the general public, and I'm pretty sure they are fully booked in a matter weeks :twocents:

Rusty 01-14-2016 08:21 AM

I had to book here back in Oct HISTORIC TAPOCO LODGE | 828.498.2800 – Tapoco Lodge Resort on the Cheoah River located in the Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina, near Robbinsville, North Carolina on US129 just 2 miles south of the famous Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap as Fontana was already booked solid. Got a nice cabin. :D If you want to see some nice back roads. Do the Poker Run or the TSD Rally. Worst Exhaust is right up FPenis alley. :rofl2:

FPenvy 01-14-2016 08:29 AM

be sure to call Fontana. in past years ive found the website to not always be correct.

also closer to zdayz typically march/april a lot of rooms/cabins become available from members here due to life getting in the way and changes of plans. be sure to check here and the fb zdayz group. there's a thread here for open rooms/cabins. i'll link it when I find it.

Thats where I stayed last year, it's a really nice place. IMO when I stayed at Fontana for another event it felt like I was at a run down motel.

If you want to do the dragon do it at the break of dawn if you wait till later you'll just be doing 15mph behind the guy on the trike. During the day there are plenty of other amazing roads a little drive away that are pretty much deserted.

The top of the dam is a great place for pics at sunset.

or when we did a run in the day we had 2 cops in front of us and one behind us. also we passed 2 positioned on the dragon running traps.

honestly each year just gets worse and worse with cops and then you have a bunch of people running in the early am so that's becoming a crowded time.

why cant cops just block off the ends of the dragon and run at your own risk speed runs lol :driving: almost like a mini race event. damn public roads.

Best time to do the Dragon is during the week. Weekends suck. Cops out in force. Do the side roads. Some are great. We did the time trial last year. Found nice roads with hairy switchbacks. :driving: We're getting there Wed, and leaving Monday. So we got time to do the dragon with no cops. :D

surprisingly on the new poker run route there were some awesome roads. however I think we got lost and we were back deep in the sticks and found some cool twisties.

It would be much safer, the amount of people crossing the double yellow is shocking. But then it would be a pay for drive because the cops couldn't make any money then.

I always get a kick out of the bikers saying cars are the problem with the center line but they put their tires on it then lean well over the line with their body.

the highway traffic safety act, THEY are in the wrong for violating the line.

All the rooms and cabins get book the day after ZDayZ or very shortly after. People who manage to get a room or cabin have first dibs on reserving them for next year for I think 2 weeks after the dates stayed. On Sunday check out the ladies at reception ask if you want to reserve for next year. Every one says yes. :icon17:

That's how I got my cabin. My buddy who snagged a cabin last year gave me the reservation. Went with him to check out on Sunday and he passed the reservation to me.

BTW, sorry guys my cabin is full and I have a line of people who have dibs on any open spots that might open up.

:iagree: I hug the **** out of that double yellow tying to get that perfect apex. More than a few bikers have almost been introduced to my driver’s side mirror because they are leaning over the line. :shakes head:

Some gas stations in the mountains take cash only. But downtown you can use your card for gas.

If your the type of guy who wants to sleep at night peacefully and wake up early in the morning for a spirited drive at the dragon don't stay at Fontana

As we burn the night away drinking and partying at the fire pit and some nice Z car club cabins! Mazoc for one is a nice cabin to hang out

And you have people like me ripping the straight pipes at ungodly hours for people asking to hear them lol

Spstone 01-15-2016 06:39 AM

^^^^^ I'm going to be in the campsite. I didn't want to go offsite unless it was the only choice. My experience with other multiple day shows was if you stay off site getting on site in the morning can be a nightmare. Also wanted to be able to participate in any shenanigans involving alcohol and get home easily. I'm one of those 1 beer and I'm not driving kind of guys.

that's respectful becasue we all know 1 beer isn't 1 beer. it'll probably include a shot or two. maybe 3. then a few more beers. :icon17:

like rusty said if youre not about party type atmosphere and really are there for the driving more than anything then offsite is the way to go.

personally I think onsite is the only way to fully experience what zdayz is. just a big laid back event/party with a large and awesome Z community.

regardless of why youre there it probably is the best Z event there is.
