based on previous posts it would seem no front plates and tinted side windows are infractions in cali.

know the laws before you break them because if you claim ignorance then they are gonna hammer you like little johnnie will when you drop the soap in a state pen.

SouthArk370Z 07-30-2015 08:34 AM

The fact that he rolled the windows down when he spotted the cop (see first post in this thread) leads me to believe his tint is not legal. YMMV

Did the cop follow proper procedure? Probably not (I'm not familiar with CA law). But it's not like he made up some bogus charges, either. If you don't want to display a front plate, move to a state that doesn't require one. Same for tint. If ya wanna play, ya gotta pay.

I love kids nowadays, society has taught them it's never their fault and being bullied

It sucks but just pay the ticket and get the car fixed

Many things wrong with society? Sometimes cops dont follow procedures.. such as not checking the tinted windows to see if they are even legal or illegal. Youve done nothi g wrong with taking it to court. Just like when you get a speeding ticket and the cop never shot you with the laser.. ive taking it to court and won.. never dine anything wrong. I wasnt even speeding and he gave me a ticket.
When you are wrong yeah man up i am not saying you shouldnt .. in this case the cop didnt check his tinted windows.

I made a few simple and true statements and was not inviting or provoking a debate. I would love to engage further with you but I fall back on a piece of wisdom my father imparted on me when I was very young – much younger than you are currently – and it is this:

Son, never engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent; it’s just bad form.

In California any aftermarket tint on the front driver and passenger side windows is illegal. Period. Furthermore, any vehicle code violation is sufficient grounds for a police officer to stop you, no matter how trivial. Thus, you're welcome to fight the ticket in court and lose.

FWIW, window tint violations are rather cheap (typically a fix it ticket). So many people simply remove their tint, get the removal signed off at the local police station, and then reinstall it. In fact, in my neck of the woods one of the most popular window tint places in literal right up the street from a Sheriff substation for this very reason.

My old car, I was haggled all the time in san diego for tints but as soon as they saw that I was active duty and the tints I had were legal for my state of residency they walked away with their heads down.

Rule of thumb, if your pulled over for dumb crap like tints or license plate, the cops usually had some other reason to pull you over but had no proof. Like you were hooning but they weren't clocking, or its late at night and they are looking for a DUI.

Damn, I have no plates and a tinted windshield. Haven't been pulled over yet. I'm in Sacramento btw.

Isn't that a bad idea? Or do you never drive at night?

He's Asian. We don't know differences between windshield and windows. Heck only some of us could barely drive straight :rofl2:

It's only 70%. Makes driving at night a little easier actually. I don't get blinded by all the SUVs and trucks. The Z isn't a daily driver either.

Well the no front license plate is just all based on personal preference. Honestly if you don't have it and get caught, it's done there is no fixing it really quick like rolling down your windows once you see the cop.

Rolling down your windows after passing the cop like you said was probably the wrong thing to do because at that point it seems as if you are trying to hide it.
As for the police officer not measuring the tint, of course that can always be fought against. Kind of like a cop saying that you shot someone but didn't fingerprint the gun for evidence and you took the gun with you when the officer left.

I do agree with zedge and gale and every one that if you get caught for something like this than don't make it about anything racial or anything profiling and just pay your dues and move on from it. You obviously did something that the officer did not like or though was suspicious. Hell for all you know he saw you before you passed him, saw the license plate, and the window tint and then saw you rolling the windows down while passing him. Pretty rational reason to be pulled over.

Yes license plate and tint is probably a quota ticket at the end of the month, but in a sense you kind of provoked it.

I have no front license plate and have my windows tinted at 20%, the no front license plate and slight window tint can give the same impression to an officer, plus the fact that I am 20 years old gives them another reason. Plus my car is not the quietest lol.
I have also never passed a cop going faster than the speed limit in this car. I will wait for them to be going slow enough and them wanting me to pass. Like if the speed limit was 35 and he was going 30, at that point I'd pass but I wouldn't do it fast but gradually showing control over the vehicle.

If the cop and I are going about the same speed I will sit close to his blind spot to avoid my missing front license plate being seen.

I do try and do my best to avoid being pulled over as much as possible:
1. To not have to deal with any harassment
2. To not have to pay a fine
3. I've learned to spot any cop in a humanely possible field of view (night or day)

If I do get caught and pulled over (knock on wood) then I will just handle what needs to be with the officer and then do what I need to do to get it handled by me.

Simple as that.
