Pulled and ticketed for tinted windows
Cleared.
|
I had a friend successfully fight this (write in) because the cop didn't measure the tint, so you could try that.
On the other hand, if you really have no tint, you could just pay the $ to get the fixit signed, isn't it pretty cheap? |
Where was this? I never had any issues for my tint and they're dark, 15% plus no front plate since forever.
|
I had the same issue with a cop when I had my first car lol
Had a 2006 BMW 330i and a cop pulled me over for speeding. His question, "Is this really your car" hahahaha He even got the car model and color wrong on the ticket lmao |

It was obvious he didn't care but just wanted to meet quota. Just tried to get everything done quick and fined me for the tints. |
When you tint your side windows in California and also choose to run without a front plate, then you are at constant risk of being pulled over and you should accept that risk as well as be prepared to pay the price.
Each of these is a motor vehicle infraction. Both of these conditions are easy to spot and do not require any effort (like measuring speed) on the officer's part. Anyway... This reminds me of one of my sons when he was 16 and got his first ticket in one of my Z's. "I was profiled!!!" he said. I asked why he said that and he replied that he has long hair, is young and driving a sports car. I asked him how fast he was going and he said 85. I then asked if he was going faster than everyone else and he said he was. I then agreed that he was profiled and pointed out that the CHP profiles people who are obviously speeding. I told him to man up and accept the consequences. |
Being profiled by police is a fact of life, accept it.
Now, regarding the window tint, get a note from your optometrist, make a copy for each car you own with tinted windows, and keep a notarized copy in each. For this time around, see if the note can still be used to have the ticket written off. Please, stop using racial card. I'm Asian too and your attempt is embarrassing. |
When you say you were asked repeatedly about ownership of the car............................................... .
According to your video "evidence" he asked you only twice if you owned the car. the second time was right after he asked you for the second time for your registration, which you apparently did not hand him along with your other info. Sorry, guy, I don't see anything here that would indicate he is a hater of either Asians, or the 370z. All I see is a disgruntled driver pissed because he couldn't hide his illegal window tint from the police. Window tint laws are in place for a reason (although I don't personally agree with it, and have one of my own vehicles tinted) But if I get caught, I'm not gonna bitch and moan, and cry "profiling" or any other BS about it, I'm just gonna have it removed, as the law dictates, and move on. You gotta pay the price to play the game. |

Man up. When you are wrong, own it. Where is the accountability and responsibility? I weep for those who spend their energy trying to cheat and lie. |
Lucky that you did not get shot liked the man in Cincinnati.

I don't know what's up your *** bro but I came to get info, not to get lectured on what's right and wrong, sherlock. If I needed parenting on morals, you'd be the last person i'd call. Honestly I could go on some more but judging from what we have so far of you, it's not worth it. |

You broke the law, you got caught, quit whining about it and pay the fine. As the Beretta theme song said, "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time." |

based on previous posts it would seem no front plates and tinted side windows are infractions in cali.
know the laws before you break them because if you claim ignorance then they are gonna hammer you like little johnnie will when you drop the soap in a state pen. |
The fact that he rolled the windows down when he spotted the cop (see first post in this thread) leads me to believe his tint is not legal. YMMV
Did the cop follow proper procedure? Probably not (I'm not familiar with CA law). But it's not like he made up some bogus charges, either. If you don't want to display a front plate, move to a state that doesn't require one. Same for tint. If ya wanna play, ya gotta pay. |
I love kids nowadays, society has taught them it's never their fault and being bullied
It sucks but just pay the ticket and get the car fixed |

In California any aftermarket tint on the front driver and passenger side windows is illegal. Period. Furthermore, any vehicle code violation is sufficient grounds for a police officer to stop you, no matter how trivial. Thus, you're welcome to fight the ticket in court and lose.
FWIW, window tint violations are rather cheap (typically a fix it ticket). So many people simply remove their tint, get the removal signed off at the local police station, and then reinstall it. In fact, in my neck of the woods one of the most popular window tint places in literal right up the street from a Sheriff substation for this very reason. |
My old car, I was haggled all the time in san diego for tints but as soon as they saw that I was active duty and the tints I had were legal for my state of residency they walked away with their heads down.
Rule of thumb, if your pulled over for dumb crap like tints or license plate, the cops usually had some other reason to pull you over but had no proof. Like you were hooning but they weren't clocking, or its late at night and they are looking for a DUI. |

Damn, I have no plates and a tinted windshield. Haven't been pulled over yet. I'm in Sacramento btw.

Well the no front license plate is just all based on personal preference. Honestly if you don't have it and get caught, it's done there is no fixing it really quick like rolling down your windows once you see the cop.
Rolling down your windows after passing the cop like you said was probably the wrong thing to do because at that point it seems as if you are trying to hide it. As for the police officer not measuring the tint, of course that can always be fought against. Kind of like a cop saying that you shot someone but didn't fingerprint the gun for evidence and you took the gun with you when the officer left. I do agree with zedge and gale and every one that if you get caught for something like this than don't make it about anything racial or anything profiling and just pay your dues and move on from it. You obviously did something that the officer did not like or though was suspicious. Hell for all you know he saw you before you passed him, saw the license plate, and the window tint and then saw you rolling the windows down while passing him. Pretty rational reason to be pulled over. Yes license plate and tint is probably a quota ticket at the end of the month, but in a sense you kind of provoked it. I have no front license plate and have my windows tinted at 20%, the no front license plate and slight window tint can give the same impression to an officer, plus the fact that I am 20 years old gives them another reason. Plus my car is not the quietest lol. I have also never passed a cop going faster than the speed limit in this car. I will wait for them to be going slow enough and them wanting me to pass. Like if the speed limit was 35 and he was going 30, at that point I'd pass but I wouldn't do it fast but gradually showing control over the vehicle. If the cop and I are going about the same speed I will sit close to his blind spot to avoid my missing front license plate being seen. I do try and do my best to avoid being pulled over as much as possible: 1. To not have to deal with any harassment 2. To not have to pay a fine 3. I've learned to spot any cop in a humanely possible field of view (night or day) If I do get caught and pulled over (knock on wood) then I will just handle what needs to be with the officer and then do what I need to do to get it handled by me. Simple as that. |
i refuse to tint my windows so people can see the giant smile on my face when i drive my car.
makes them jelly they are driving the stupid prius or some eco-crap-box |

no tinted windows on my Nismo :iagree: -Clifford :tiphat: |
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), there are three (3) main legal restrictions for window tint on a car in the State of California:
1) Front windows cannot have after-market tint. 2) Front Windshield cannot have after-market tint. 3) If the rear window (rear windshield) receives aftermarket tint, the vehicle must have exterior rear view mirrors on both the left and right sides of the vehicle. No need to measure tint, any tint is illegal on the front. OP fail for not knowing state laws. If you want to have as little issues when pulled over. Before the office even gets to you car have your engine and radio off, your license registration and proof of insurance in hand, and both hand on the top of the steering wheel. At that point you never even have to say a word to them. |
Know the law.......
If you break it, pay the law. Don't give them any reasons especially if you black cause there slaughtering us like cattle and getting away with it. The only word I use with the cops is "Yes, No and OK". Your tint is illegal..............."OK" I need your license ............"OK" Gonna write you a ticket......"OK" Have you been drinking........"NO" Is your licence valid............."YES" Everything checks out, have a nice day, "OK" |
:iagree:
Exactly how I handle the police too whenever I get pulled over. |

I couldn't have said it better. I know 2 people personally who I have known for closer to 11 years now, one is a CHP and one was a detective and then moved to CHP. Both are great guys in and out of the uniform. I say that because I have run into them while on duty before and seen how they are with others as well as myself. It's all about the respect being held for the other person. Think of the UFC: their objective is to kick the living crap out of the other person in the ring, but 9 times out of 10, almost 10/10. What do you see when the fight is over or the bell has rung in between rounds? The respect the fighters have for each other. |

Of course some cops are dicks, but I haven't had the misfortune of meeting one yet. |
IMHO Most cops will not pull you over for the sole reason of tint. Most of the time that infraction is attached to another higher infraction such as what happened to the OP with no front plate. The reason why the OP got a "fix it" ticket is because the cop did not run a tint meter and knew it could get thrown out in court. Most cops do not even carry one in their cars anyways.

:iagree:
They usually have the speed gun and that is it. And most of the time the gun isn't calibrated correctly to be used to give a ticket anyhow. A lot of people just are like well he got me on the speed gun, it must be right. Not always. But if he has the certificate of calibration for the gun, well then by all means write me up a ticket and I will pay it and do traffic school lol |
That sucks
