That is because it was, it has always been a roadster and meant to look good with the top up or down. The 370z has been stated it was "designed" with a roadster in mind, but you can clearly tell the coupe was priority and the roadster was secondary.

Actually both the coupe and roadster were designed at the same time. The designer said so himself that the 370Z was designed as a roadster right from the outset.
