i got mine with 15000km on it (2012 model purchased in 2014) so it had maybe 3 years of driving at most prior to... he 'had a family' and needed to get a 'family car'.

this seems to happen a lot. impulse buy on a sports car (2 seater at that) and then they realize they need 1.. 2.. or maybe 3 extra seats for the little buggers.

in my opinion, it's great because you get a deal on a gently (relatively) used car.

We bought ours new and put 68K miles on it in four years of ownership so far

I will never understand people that buy cars on impulse (I expect that is the majority of Z owners that dump it quickly). But it could be a good opportunity to pick up a new-to-you Z in like new condition for a decent price since it has already depreciated a fair amount.

yep they lost the biggest chunk of 'equity' in the first year and second.

It's a relatively cheap sports car, so a lot of people can afford to buy one. The slightest life change may render the car horribly impractical. Loss of job, pregnancy, need to buy house, changing jobs with longer commute, insurance rates, etc... Also this car typically has younger buyers that are generally more impulsive.

Its probably people buying the 370z for impulse then they can't afford it and they let it go. I enjoyed my Z and will be keeping it for a long time.

Funny because I purchased my Z with 5900 miles on it. I was questioning and wondering why it had such low mileage. I was guessing that it was because the person couldn't afford but I don't think that's a valid reasoning for a lot of people...
