'16 gets fake engine noise
"The Nissan 370Z is getting a little long in the tooth these days. So what does Nissan do to keep it current? Did they add a turbocharged engine, or make it lose some weight, or give it a dual-clutch gearbox? Nope, they added one of the most hated new technologies on cars instead: engine sounds through the speakers.
Why Nissan decided to augment one of the VQ V6’s worst qualities is beyond me, but here we are, and it probably comes much to the delight of Z-bros who don’t have to go out and buy the biggest fart pipe they can afford now. (Oh, hell. They’re gonna do it anyway.) Nissan today announced these additions to the 2016 370Z Coupe, NISMO and Roadster: Enhancements for the 2016 model year include the addition of a new Deep Blue Pearl exterior color and a new available Bose® audio system incorporating Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Active Sound Enhancement (ASE). The ANC system generates canceling sound to remove undesirable low frequency engine noise, while preserving invigorating sounds of engine performance, providing a more “pure” sound. The ASE enhances natural engine sounds to help bolster the driver’s acceleration experience. “Enhances natural engine sounds to bolster the driver’s acceleration experience.” That sentence is just painful to read. Next time you see a friend in a fast car, ask them “How was your acceleration experience, Ted?” and see what they say. I bet they’d be perplexed, because such a sentence is only English in the loosest sense possible. Listen: I’m progressive when it comes to cars. I think we can enjoy new stuff and old stuff, and I’m generally in favor of things like improved efficiency, lighter weight, and better technology, if it’s done right. One thing I can’t get behind is this trend of piping in engine noise through the speakers. It may be “natural” noise from the engine bay, but it doesn’t feel natural at all. It also adds an unnecessary degree of complication to the car. I realize it’s probably done for noise, vibration and harshness reasons, and on other cars because turbocharged motors sometimes sound like crap. I just don’t see how the 370Z, of all cars, needed such a system. Granted it never sounded great in the first place, but this seems like a really strange addition so close to the end of its life. Were any 370Z people asking for this? Does anybody ask to have engine sounds come through their speakers? I didn’t think so. There has to be a better way to do this, automakers." |
Torches and pitchforks. Now!:wtf:

Lol
|
What happens now when a larger diameter Y-pipe or unresonated TP's/HFC's go on?
If it can cancel out that rasp I'm all for it. |
If the VQ sounded better it wouldnt be too bad. I miss my old DE, LOVED that V6 "bauble".
|
I just got up an read this while in the can
:gtfo2:
:wtf2: |
How do i unread this?
|
They made an automatic Nismo roaodster that looks like ****. This does not surprise me in the least.

I was hoping that the original post date of this thread was April 1st. :ugh:

I'm not a fan of the idea, but it's a growing trend amongst automakers. BMW did it first with the M cars. Cadillac is doing it, and the GT-R has had active noise cancellation for a few years now, and no one noticed.
What I'm not a fan of is Jalopnik (the source of the article posted) being a bunch of hypocritical douche-nozzles. They swing from the nuts of nearly every RWD car made, yet don't hesitate to trash the Z every chance they get. A bunch of self-important car enthusiast hipsters with champagne taste on a beer budget. Lately, everything I have read from there irks the **** out of me, which shouldn't come as a surprise as they're a subsidiary of Gawker. |
A piece of me has died after reading this
|
For the looks of it, I guess the 6th generation Z will continue onto 2016.
|
Isnt the New gen Q a 2017 model. Its a no brainer the z35 isnt happening in 2016.
|
Nissan finally focusing on the important stuff

Put c0ck in a55!

hope they put in a turbo sound generator mode too.. with blow off noises.. inside AND outside the car.
|
washer mod is so outdated now.. out with the old
|
Ziri, cool my oil.
I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that. |
At least we know that our current gen model will last till 2016 for sure....
I never experienced it but sounds like a horrible idea to add that to the Z. |

I couldn't agree more |
And... the Z34 is dead. Nismo/Nissan should go commit Harikari.

Sound cancellation (like on the new GTR's) would be pretty nice if it helped out with tire noise? On the M235i forums there's people changing out the sound tracks for the M4. Lmao now that is a gold mod right there. Edit: The sound enhancement on the M235i I drove was actually pretty cool. But then again this is coming from a guy who ran the washer mod without any shame for a good week. |
nissan shot them self's in the same foot twice already, but they still continue to shoot, i guess that's how they show their determination.

they benchmark stupid. they still owe me $500 |
I have a feeling my current Z will be my last
|
After reading the article I went to give my AAM short tails a high five.
I have no clue what to make of this new trend. It strikes fear in me that one day all cars will be self driving electric cars with, muscle car engine and exhaust sounds running through the speakers. |

oh wait.. :ugh: |
bmw does it. i guess nissan is following blindly. If any car needs it, it's the gt-r on a higher scale
|
Mustangs have had sound pumped into the cabin via a sound induction tube since 2010.
Using the speakers is the worst possible solution. However considering the in cabin soundtrack is probably the #1 complaint about 370s...I'm surprised that nissan didn't do this year's ago. |
Gawker drivel.
|
I make better car noises - VTEC Powrrrrrr!!! Vvvrrrooooooommmmm... shpoooooshhhhhhh..... brrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaa..... sshhhhpoooooooosshhhh...
|
Could always disable the active noise cancelation mic inside the cabin. problem solved :ugh2:
|
I can see where sound cancelling would be very valuable in a 370Z, but sound "enhancement" sounds like Just Another Marketing Gimmick to me. It's one of those whatever-trips-your-trigger things to me - if you like, go for it, but I wouldn't pay extra for it.
If I were going to "enhance" my "acceleration experience", I'd use the sounds of a big-block V8. ;) |
the last jmag i read, the next z wont be out until 2018...
so i guess you guys still have 2 more yrs of washer mod. im sure you're relieved. |
Stereophonic engine noise??? Cars can't be cars anymore because the EPA are a bunch of FVKKIN' PANSIES!!!
