I'm going to assume that this would be the cheaper way out. I don't think anyone asked for engine noise through the speakers but I'm pretty sure people have complained how noisy the cabin is and instead of redesigning or adding insulation they just crank engine noise to drown out the road noise.

I thought the cabin was noisy but then I got new tires and also with a good speaker system...cabin noise =

I just picked up a 2016 base recently, can't say I hear anything coming out of the speakers engine related.Does anyone know if this only applies to the Bose sound system,or is it subtle enough for me not to notice with the base system?

I was late into the thread. wasn't at you specifically but the 2016's in general if they do have the speaker engine sound. That is the main reason I didn't go with a 335i

Active Sound Enhancement (ASE) is a Bose-only "feature"

Did they add a turbocharged engine, or make it lose some weight, or give it a dual-clutch gearbox? Nope, they added one of the most hated new technologies on cars instead: engine sounds through the speakers.

Why Nissan decided to augment one of the VQ V6’s worst qualities is beyond me, but here we are, and it probably comes much to the delight of Z-bros who don’t have to go out and buy the biggest fart pipe they can afford now. (Oh, hell. They’re gonna do it anyway.)

Nissan today announced these additions to the 2016 370Z Coupe, NISMO and Roadster:
Enhancements for the 2016 model year include the addition of a new Deep Blue Pearl exterior color and a new available Bose® audio system incorporating Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Active Sound Enhancement (ASE). The ANC system generates canceling sound to remove undesirable low frequency engine noise, while preserving invigorating sounds of engine performance, providing a more “pure” sound. The ASE enhances natural engine sounds to help bolster the driver’s acceleration experience.

“Enhances natural engine sounds to bolster the driver’s acceleration experience.” That sentence is just painful to read. Next time you see a friend in a fast car, ask them “How was your acceleration experience, Ted?” and see what they say. I bet they’d be perplexed, because such a sentence is only English in the loosest sense possible.

Listen: I’m progressive when it comes to cars. I think we can enjoy new stuff and old stuff, and I’m generally in favor of things like improved efficiency, lighter weight, and better technology, if it’s done right.

One thing I can’t get behind is this trend of piping in engine noise through the speakers. It may be “natural” noise from the engine bay, but it doesn’t feel natural at all. It also adds an unnecessary degree of complication to the car. I realize it’s probably done for noise, vibration and harshness reasons, and on other cars because turbocharged motors sometimes sound like crap.

I just don’t see how the 370Z, of all cars, needed such a system. Granted it never sounded great in the first place, but this seems like a really strange addition so close to the end of its life. Were any 370Z people asking for this? Does anybody ask to have engine sounds come through their speakers? I didn’t think so. There has to be a better way to do this, automakers."

My buddy Nick owns that Rat Rod in your profile pic now. He bought it from Paul Tracy, it has much more era appropriate wheels and tires on it these days:

Oh and to get back on topic, that feature is no better than lane assist, parking assist, brake assist, just start your car and get on your phone assist, the decline of manual transmissions and I could go on and on. SMH

This sure did get allot of attention lol

Its not that big of deal... All the 5.0's have it. Even the new ones. Thiers comes directly from the intake tube all the way to thr firewall. Its looks stupid and is idiotic. But ehh

Yea, the thing is an attention wh*re, lots of looks when you drive around in it. He builds custom baggers and says his bikes don't get half the attention that car gets.

BMW has the same feature for their sound system. I do not know what it was called but I did not like it what-so-ever. And from what it sounds like its the same technology.

ramoszx12r 10-01-2015 10:30 AM

Can it be disable.

birdman71 10-01-2015 12:26 PM

I'm sure a tune could disable it or you can just replace your ecu haha

I have a stock '16 Z and it doesn't bother me a bit. Cant wait for spring to install a CBE. Which CBE is still a coin toss. I am leaning towards the FI or Stillen.

Top Trim '16 Maximas have it as well, its so gimmicky its crazy. Imagine hearing that with the dreaded CVT drone if its not in sport mode which mimics traditional shifts :icon14:
