I sold my z last year in anticipation that Nissan was going to do something good with the next z, and soon! It's way overdue. This car is getting old.

I'm actually seriously debating buying a camaro because Chevy has actually been proactive and listened to what buyers want. Every year, the other cars get a little bit better and have real improvements. But not Nissan's z. Nope. They've managed to leave a car exactly the same for too long and not drop the price enough to make it worth it.

Thanks, Nissan, for the underwhelming nismo update in 2015, and for adding fake engine noise this year. You could have just added some nice exhaust that actually makes it sound like a sports car, but that would have been too desirable. Another year goes by and the z receives zero asked for improvements.

I think I'm just gonna buy an affordable camaro this year. At least their track model can keep its oil cool enough to stay out of limp mode.

NoLaKrewe 04-11-2015 10:59 PM

The camaro is so ugly and common it hurts. The Z destroys it in appearance and rarity. Add that to the fact that all the trash and filth in the city buys camaro and throws 24-28" rims on them, I could never join that crowd of cars. Not with my dignity.

Magic Bus 04-11-2015 11:28 PM

ajperretta, Warmest Aloha and enjoy your new Camaro.

axmea? 04-11-2015 11:40 PM

I'm holding judgement until I actually hear it.

Limeybastard 04-12-2015 12:13 AM

Why the hell with the trend to hear fake engine sound inside cabin? Make the fake sound go out of the car idiots. Not inside.

Also my hunch, as I truly thought the 15 would be the last model year for this gen Z. Nissan boardroom must have decided to just milk it further instead of perhaps a gap until the next gen is released.

jdsto 04-12-2015 08:35 AM

The only cars that need fake engine noise are electric cars and it should be on the outside. Pedestrians are so stupid where I live there will be mass carnage on the roads if everyone drove a Tesla. Its winter, hmmm I think I will walk right into the street without looking with the hood up on my overpriced Canada Goose parka while texting.

It could be argued that the z crowd has a fairly large amount of riced out cars. Which, unfortunately is true. I always cringe when I see a z that has been molested with ugly wretched stanced wheels that don't fit right and some super gaudy street fighter body kits.

I'm becoming less turned off to the camaro. They are building a car that is actually track capable and blows the doors off our z. It performs better and is cheaper. It might be less rare, but the 2016 model z is essentially the same car that was on the lots in the summer of 08. the track model can't even be tracked. Pathetic. I'm just really frustrated because the mustang is now a better buy, and I hate the mustang with every fiber in my body. It is classic junk but it's actually a better buy than our z's. Nissan has lost its vision with this car.

ajperretta 04-12-2015 12:00 PM

Maybe next year they will add some flashing led valve stem caps!

It's the EPA pansies whining about noise pollution. They need to silence commercial trucks and motorcycles, not cars. :shakes head:
Yet the same agency told zone 1 thru 4 9/11 victims, we were breathing safe air? Really????? EPA's priorities are where? In reducing exhaust noise.

Nick216 04-12-2015 01:53 PM

Even hyundai is stepping up the coupe with tht nasty 3.3 TT and possibly v8

Wait for the new alpha platform Camaro to arrive. It's lighter

The oil in a Camaro stays cool mostly because around tough corners it never makes it through the block.

Google LSX oil starvation.

I'd rather boil my oil knowing that it's being circulated through the motor than not have any oil at all.

mishuko 04-13-2015 08:43 AM

why would i want that? i think i do a fine job myself of making engine noises when the car is off...

or when i'm launching and want to hear a bov on my NA engine

or when traffic is going slow and i want to pretend i'm driving fast... oh wait i just sit in 2nd...

You know, I bought my '12 Nismo for the love of the car and what it stood for. I have always planned on keeping it, but I have been eager to see what comes next, and if good enough, I'd trade up.... But this is so dissapointing. I'd rather the Z went on a hiatus while Nissan fine tuned the next generation. I'm still happy with my car, and it still makes me smile every time I drive it, but to see other makes like Ford, Chevy, and even Hyundai taking great steps while we take none is so frustrating. I'm sure Mr. Katayama is rolling around in his grave right now. Not cool Nissan

This...this is sad. I just got done reading a 12 page thread from 2009 on the Honda S2000 forums about the 370Z. This is EXCATLY what the S2 guys said. I.E. the competition ran away from the S2K, Nissan has either given up or I hope pulls a feckin magic trick like David Fugging Copperfield.

While it sounds like a terrible idea, it really is quite nice in person if done right. You can't tell it even exists... I have an M4 and have no complaints.

kenchan 04-13-2015 03:40 PM

pretty soon everyone in the stands will be wearing headphones while watching live F1 races... :ugh:

Allentown 04-13-2015 03:59 PM

I have owned 7 mustangs.

Yes they are faster, they also can't touch the feel of a dedicated 2 seater. And they creek, rattle, thud, grind, etc. They are over 500lbs heavier. When you own one it seems people hate you. Resale on them is terrible unless its a shelby.

Camaro: The seating position and driving ergomics are gawd awful. The trunk is a porthole and could possibly be even worse than a Z in some ways. Its also over 500lbs heavier and seems to draw hate everywhere. GM seems to have recalls constantly and ford isn't far behind.

The back seats in both really arent back seats. The exterior of new models in both look great at first and then seem to become passe' about 18 months after being released.

What im saying here is calm down.....at any given time a mustang is faster, or a camaro or sometimes something else. The Z isnt as slow as i thought it was, and its ok for it not to be rated the fastest.

All i wanted for the S550 was for it to have IRS and be lighter....it ended up GAINING 200lbs and actually ending up slower than the 13s and 14s but everybody loves it because it now has a new look, some added features and IRS. Its also just as heavy as a camaro now.

Unless you get the track pack, it rolls like a boat. If you get the track pack, the suspension is hardened and starts to beat you up again. If you drive an auto but want the bigger brakes, tighter suspension and summer rubber....tough luck, it can't be optioned that way. If you want the nav, leather seats and high end stero, you are going to end up paying about $44,000. To this day, chinese made MT82 transmission in the manual version sucks. They are also the cars you drive an unwittingly get lumped in as the car owner who "doesnt know better/is stuck in his high school glory days/should have a mullet" and worse.

Yes we can leverage a bunch of insults at the Z but the grass isnt always greener. Ive had big over powered cars and now im gravitating towards smaller cars with better balance.

YMMV

kenchan 04-13-2015 04:02 PM

minivans are fast..

Jordo! 04-13-2015 07:12 PM

Unless I am misunderstanding something about the system (which is always possible), its just another form of NVH control. It's an electronic "resonator" or "muffler" rather than a mechanical one. It's not a synthesizer or something.

If it can be programmed to make the engine sound like a cat meowing or a horse whinnying, then okay, it's a sound effects generator machine, and that is lame/silly/potentially hilarious.

If it's a noise canceler/harmonics enhancer then, at worst, it's an electronic acoustic tuner, enabling you to play with the tone via keyboard rather than mechanical valving, not really any different from fly-by-wire, EFI, or any number of electronic devices that have replaced the service of strictly mechanical ones.

Really, now, if you could hit a button that cancels out guttural rasps when you change the piping rather than have to experiment with welding on new metal resonators, what's the problem?

S1L3NoZ 04-14-2015 07:17 AM

I'll give you more details on how this ASE works in the next few days when I get the time to mess around with it. Yesterday, the dealer finally got the Z I ordered last year :P Was supposed to be a 15 but the PW was out of production for that year model so I had to wait for a 16 PW instead. I'm picking her up today :D I'll get back to you guys on this.

they have the middle-aged baldy mod. those put extra throttle voltage beyond our recognition.

ProfessorDave 04-14-2015 10:39 AM

What did you say?!? Electronic Sound what?!? Huh?!?

Shoot, I can't hear a damn thing coming through the speakers over my FI exhaust...I hope I'm not missing something important....

GSS138 04-14-2015 10:47 AM

NVM the fuel starve issue, let's install a synthesizer!

mishuko 04-14-2015 12:36 PM

at the rate this is going they will smoothen out the car and then add a small motor to the shifter to simulate the feedback/vibrations

Powerwiz 04-15-2015 03:45 AM

Many makers are using this. Ford, BMW to name a few.

Nissan has its priorities in order. Fix the unreliable CSC or terrible fuel pickup design? Nah, active sound!

It is definitely a growing trend within the industry to move to pumping sound through the stereo, but c'mon. There are more important things to focus on on a "sports car."

m4a1mustang 04-15-2015 08:49 AM

I'm not for or against fake sound, by the way. I just think Nissan's handling of the Z since launch has been somewhat comical.

Yeah, save that tech for family friendly hot hatches..

Sports cars need NATURAL sound.

This is the Nissan I have come to know :ugh2:

kenchan 04-15-2015 10:46 AM

i wonder if there is an 'on board a tow truck' sound too.. for proactive image training.

kenchan 04-15-2015 10:47 AM

be funny if the car starts playing relaxing music when it fails to start..

kenchan 04-15-2015 10:48 AM

or drive like an arse and it starts playing kenny-g :ugh2:

kenchan 04-15-2015 10:48 AM

then get hacked by U2 and car starts playing random U2 albums...

bodhi 05-19-2015 05:04 PM

Bump.. Anyone have any additional experiences with the new 'Feature'?
