I mean car enthusiast means a lot of different things to different people. I have a friend whose a car enthusiast for sure but has a 2003 Mach 1 with no mods and only takes it out once or twice a month. it has 35000 miles on it. I on the other hand I put 100,000 miles on my GTI in 3 years. Its all about what you personally believe in. nothing wrong with building a car to personally just enjoy building.

Now first you gotta find yourself a car club
Oh your analyst will tell you where they are
Read sports car magazines
Sneer at all the new machines
Then who says ya gotta buy a car

Ah next you gotta buy yourself a helmet
Smudge it a little with some tar
Draw speed charts on your walls
Flame proof your coveralls
And who says ya gotta buy a car?

Don’t call windshields anything but windscreens
Don’t call Bugatti’s anything but bugs
And if they start talking about the heat range
Be sure to mumble wisely, sparking plugs

Then buy a bag of trophies at a hock shop
Wince some times and say it’s just a scare
Brag your Jag’s a total loss
Make a call to Sterling Moss
And who says ya gotta buy a car

Furthermore just talk about the formula for F1
Say Lance won’t take the Scarab very far
Mention you would like to miss
Indianapolis
And who says ya gotta buy a car

Laugh it up at auto transmissions
Boast you double clutch without a jar
Drink a toast for Roger Ward
And a pox on Henry Ford
And who says ya gotta buy a car

Talk about the need for proper cornering
Boast of hairpin turns at 120 miles per hour
Say you’re ashamed they weren’t faster
But a three and a half liter doesn’t have the power

Ah when you pile the bull up to the ceiling
Treat ‘em all to Irish at the bar
Man they’ll all be really sent
They’ll elect you president
So who says ya gotta buy a car
You don’t even need a license
Who says ya gotta buy a car.

From Sports Car Songs for Big Wheels, Oscar Brand

Don't need a car if you aren't going to drive it.

Maybe stop giving other people **** and don't worry so much about a car that isn't yours.

This is definately a car that you don't just learn to drive over night. Besides getting use to the power, you need to get use to how it corners, breaks etc... I was pleasantly surprised at how it handled from stock. Car is very agile. Then once you start throwing on hp mods and suspension mods, then you have to learn all over again.
Tell your friend to take it out to a few autox events. Have fun with it at the same time learning how to drive it to its full potential in a safe and controlled environment.

I have to agree. You don't need to think they're better than dual clutch trans, but you have to be able to respect the manual trans. Its like a pre-req.

You also have to like cloth seats
And hatch backs
And hate moon roofs
And auto start/stop

Let him build it. I know it irks you because you have a different mentality. You're a driver. He's a trophy collector who buys something shiny and wants to keep it that way, which is totally fine bc that's what he wants to do.
