what is the fastest you have had your Z too?
 

just the other night i was on my way back home when i was alone on the road and read that the Z's shut off at around 150, i had mine to 158 anyone been faster?

I had an open strech of highway on the PA turnpike and got her to about 140ish.

Ive been 155 on my G ... havnt had the chance w/ the Z... although I would imagine the G would feel a little more planted up that high...

155 on the digital speedo in the 350 I had. I still gotta find the time and the place to push the 370.

At 115 and you could feel it had plenty more to go and it felt GOOD!

Weight has absolutely no effect on high-speed stability, and the effect of longer wheelbase is marginal at best.

so about 400lbs of weight doesn't effect it also what is the distribution of this weight, and the foot longer wheel base doesn't effect it? The track widths are about the same, the suspension is probably a little softer " more luxurious ", also the tire widths are probably slightly different. None of this is taking into account the aerodynamics.

Granted these might all be small differences but they all start to add up exponentially at the speeds we are talking about.

Exactly - more weight and MUCH longer wheel base. The way I look at it - the G is more suited for high speed sweeping turns and the Z does better with short technical turns... but in a straight line .. the extra wheelbase + the added 4-500 lbs makes a huge difference. remember im not talking about getting up to speed - but Im taking about how planted the car would feel at that speed

What happened at 158? Were you redlined in 6th, or you just felt like the thing was going to take off?!:tup:

What 400-500lbs are your talking about? Are you talking about the G coupe or sedan?. G35 or G37?

I mean the G35 coupe was roughly 3500lbs and even the G37 coupe isn't much heavier at 3600lbs and change. Considering the 370z touring sport comes in at just under 3550lbs there really isn't much different in weight. I mean even taking the lightest 370z ( base manual) vs the heaviest G37 coupe we are only talking about 150-200lbs.

The base 370z with sport package has been weighed on here by a couple people and came out to around 3,200-3,300 I dont remember the thread but the guy weighed it and verified. when you look up the curb weight of the G37 coupe (may or may not be accurate) its above 3,600lbs. That's at the least 400lbs different and that was for a base model g37. So there you have it! :tup:

Insane. How do you even keep from getting blown off the freeway under 80?

I do 80-85 every day in an MX-5 (reverse commute against prevailing flow) just to keep up. I can vouch for aerodynamics trumping weight and wheelbase in the stability at speed department. The little Miata just hunkers down on the road and asks to go faster.

Top indicated speed in the MX5 (closed course, of course) is 128 -- bumpin' redline cutoff. The little roadster felt light, but stable. No shake or shimmy. No problem. A little more engine and she'd be good for 140-ish. That said, I wouldn't want to wreck at any more than about 40 in this light tin can, however confidence-inspiring she may be.

BTW -- I put my order in on a 2010 370Z Coupe today...if that makes my commentary any more relevant to this conversation.

HUH? My Z weighs in at 32XX ... my G35 w/ sport + premium + nav etc = 36XX... that would be 400lbs

For some reason the Z feels like its going 100 when you're really only going 80.. plus traffic, my life, wife and avoiding the police is a priority too lol. :tup:

I have hit about 135 with the Z - seemed like it had plenty more to go ... but never topped her off
