Default does this sound weird to you?

so I had my car at the dealer for some service and was talking about how my bumper had all these chips on it. The advisor said he has someone come in on fridays who sands it down and resprays and clear coats to make it look like new for around $300. The price is good I think but what if the quality is bad? I would think since he actually comes to the dealer it would be ok but am not sure. I really want to make it look new again haha

I had a few minor chips in the hood and had it at the dealer for a routine inspection. They too had a paint guy who came around on Tuesdays. I thought "cool", the dealer uses him, must be good.

The guy swirled the crap out of my paint where he made the "paint correction". Additionally, the chips looked like they were fixed by a kindergartner using finger paints. I did not pay for anything and when they offered to fix it, I said no and ended up doing it myself.

Take it to a decent body shop.

i know dealerships hire painters to respray certified used cars. You can usually tell that there jobs are not the greatest in my opinion but better than seeing rock chips. My buddy owns a 335i that had a repainted front bumper from the dealership. Had about to spots that had too much over spray and made drip marks on it. I have my cousin that a bought a 350z from a nissan and they didn't do proper prep work and just sprayed over the bumper.

i'm sure a detail shop / body shop thats good will be able to take care of it for you for around the same price.

and the key what these dealer contracters fail to do is 'blending'

that's how you make it look sweet.

heck they washed and 'polished' my car when i got it but so many swirls still left....

yeah I agree thanks I will hold off until I find a good body shop. if anyone knows of any in NJ let me know. I took mine to this shop for an estimate and it was over $1000 to paint a bumper (WTF)

they must be doing a full strip-fill-repaint-blend - clear coat....

i have a bunch of small chips/dings on the hood and front bumper but i'm leaving them. adds character

or you can get a clearcoat after fixed to keep your paint nice and sexy! price will vary but it was a couple thousand CAD for full hood, bumper and fenders.

Pick up some Langka and fix them yourself. There is a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, they're invisible. My Mercedes chipped horribly, but always looked brand new since I'd fill the chips about once a month.

Default Paint Protection Film

After the repair (long cure time) the "clear bra" is the way to go. First thing to do to a new car.

for 100 or so more you can probably have a bodyshop do the work right the first time.

It depends on the guy doing the repair. I would suggest you check out some of his/her work. I had it done once on my 300zxtt on the rear bumper the guy did a great job. Couldn't even tell it.
