Before we lament the end of high-powered cars, remember this was the overwhelming opinion of most "experts" in the late 1960s-early 1970's. A combination of insurance concerns, smog controls and
'oil shocks", emasculated the 'muscle cars' with dire predictions that performance was forever dead.
Now, I realize the US was a very different country 40 years ago (as was the world) and that we may never fully recover economically from the Bush era Great Recession.
Hopefully, the strong coterie of performance buffs in the country will continue to sway manufacturers into building high-performance vehicles well into the future.
