You have probably all also been keen enough to notice they all "cleverly" pit it against its base/sport/touring brethren. Im by no means a professional car reviewer, but i know what im talkin about. The main problem with these stupid reviews is one key element, they have the car for about 1-3 days, track it, run the standard gauntlet of 0-60, handling, braking, blah blah blah we all know...... and they move on to the next car. I have been the fortunate owner of all but the touring model of the 370z. thats right, i started with a PG 2009 6MT base, then "upgraded" to a black 2009 6MT sport, and now the car i have is the red 2009 6MT Nismo.

first thing i would like to put to rest is this ******** rumor that the base and sport can romp the nismo both on a circuit and in a straight line. having owned all 3 cars for around 6k miles on each respectively...... no they do not. and trust me, by no means am i justifying my purchase of the nismo, since im just as quick to pick out its obvious flaws.

obviously, being 25, one of the first things i did was take the car to the track after they got some miles on them "4k or so". Im not a professional race car driver, so i cant consistently run +-.05 seconds of the same time every time, but i have a general idea of each car after the sum of each runs average.

The base and sport ran about the same, felt EXACTLY the same except for hte launch. sport seemed to actually start to move instead of sit and spin. but they consistently ran 13.6 average over and over again with a few shitty runs of about 13.8.

This is where im surprised every time by reviewers. I ether A: have a freak nismo, or B: actually know how to drive...... because the nismo gets 13.4s on average if i get a good launch. 2 problems i noticed, you CAN NOT launch the cars the same, the nismo will not squat down, transfer weight and dig in unless you really heated the tires OR your running softer ones "im running
Bridgestone Potenza RE050A * Rear: 285/35R19
Sidewall Style: Blackwall
Serv. Desc: (99Y)Load Index 99 = 1709lbs (775kg) per tire
Speed Rating "(Y)" = 186+mph (300kph)
UTQG: Treadwear: 140
Traction: A
Temperature: A
140 A A
which is not stock, but is also not a whole lot different ether. but if you dump it in the 4800-5k range like the sport of base you will just sit still and spin...... FOREVER. and you will destroy your run. But if you ease off the line "looks lame BTW" and then just power out, it goes. trust me. The nismo is a lot more responsive with the throttle more "snappy" is a good way to put it. my old sport and base had this weird lag time when you smashed it to the floor, but the nismo does not.

As far as the circuit track goes? honestly i think its all down to driving style. you cant be *** aggressive with a car that has such a stiff suspension and weighs 3400lbs, this isnt a lotus exige its got a fat ***. so honestly? its ability to lean and sway more with the loose "er" suspension on the base and sport is an advantage IF YOUR TRYING TO DRIVE THEM THE SAME WAY. you cant get in a corvette and take a corner expecting it to handle like your WRX, ok so thats a big difference. but a difference is a difference, and to accurately say one is better then the other you have to first drive them correctly or at least take the time to learn the car. And thats something these reviews have not done, 3 days and your still learning to shift it right....... thats a far jump off from "knowing" the car.

I hate my suspension on every day road driving, and sometimes find myself wishing i could go back. But thats pretty much the only thing about it i dont like. Every other aspect has been an improvement. And i think once time wears on and more people just get there own damn car, instead of listening to some over paid twat on motor trend to tell them a car is good or not, i believe the nismo will start to shine more.

ok, so you dont get all the bells and whistles of the others in the nismo.... but what do you want? a nicer looking car with slightly higher performance? or a comfort mobile? personal :P being 25 i choose the first lol, but not everyone likes that so maybe a nice touring model is for you. there all beautiful cars, and im not real sure why its competing against itself lol. so can we just all get along? hop in our Z, and go chase down some lame mustangs, camaros, and challengers?

like i said, non professional review/opinion from a non professional owner of all 3 cars.
Pretty detailed review, lots of words.

I think the base looks a little better but my opinion only matters to me. I considered the Nismo but decided the 7AT was needed on this car. My S2000 will serve as my manual shift toy.

Just curious. At the age of 25 why have you owned three 370Zs?

collector value if production was limited but let me ask you..... is the 350z nismo a hot demand right now?? NOPE those guys thought the same thing.

Let me ask you, how many Nismo's have been made from 2009 to 2011 thus far? Doesnt seem that rare to me. Somewhat saturated unless your comparing it to the 3.5 billion people on this planet.

Well, all I can say is that it's awesome driving not only the only Z around but the only NISMO in my area of the midwest. As far a production of the Nismo, not sure how many they are going to pump out in 2011. I didn't buy my Nismo for it's collector value, but because my order for a Z Touring/Sports/Nav was cancelled on March 25th due to the issues Japan is having and my dealer could only locate the Nismo within 250 miles. I'm not disappointed with my purchase although I did want all the bells and whistles the Touring/Sports would of had, just have to and them myself I guess.

Which part of IL are you from? Must be the middle of no where to be the only nismo there. I know that there is a second nismo within blocks of where I live. In fact it is the same color too.

Springfield and wow, after I sent that last message, I just went to lunch and saw 2 other black Z's both 350's AND someone told me they saw a silver Nismo in a town close by, so, there ya have it. STILL I don't see a lot of Z's around, which is one of the main reasons I got one instead of a Mustang, Camaro or Corvette.

Actually when I was looking for my Z I saw an 350 Nismo when I was leaving the gym and stopped and looked at it. Black very nice around $23k. I came back the next day after work to look at it in the light and it was sold. A guy on this site bought it. So it seems they are in a good demand in my case.

OP back from a super break, as many might already know. I traded the 09 in for a magma red nismo. mainly for financing reasons, but the other reason was that turns out the magma red color would only be on the 2013 model. EVER. 2014+ Z's will go back to solid red.

thoughts? the 13 feels a bit more refined. and the stock oil cooler, bose system, and better brakes help too. other than that, its pretty much exactly the same as it was just prettier. I HATED my solid red color, it had no depth to it, its pretty and plain at the same time..... hard to explain. But this new magma red looks FANTASTIC!!! At night its a dark bronze color, while mid day its a deep depth red with metal flake, and in direct sunlight its almost orange but with a bit of character to it that cant be described unless you see it up close.

I just ordered the ARK DT-S exhaust for it, closely followed by the nismo 1.5 GT PRO clutch type LSD and 4.08 gear. and I hope in the near future to scrounge enough cash to toss in weisco lightweight pistons, forged rods, motordyne intake "or another if someone makes the damn thing NOT using 350z intake" a dual plate clutch of which brand i havent decided yet. and EVENTUALLY the fast intentions TT kit. I slapped down a lot of talk about doing this before, but now im actually ordering parts one at a time. and Im installing them all myself then taking it to have it tuned professionally. I already installed all the JDM nismo crap on the car aside from the LSD. For example the frame brace kit, and when they finally come in the ******* mail, the tail lights.

O! Sounds like my plan for build, Xcept I'll have a local yokal build the shorty (CHI-town) and tune it myself on the str33t! Once I get enuff cash to throw away, gonna build my "w33k 455" VQ37 for NAWWWS. Should be fun @ the track and surprising the local area rednex on a "roll race"! There's so much JDM Nees-M0 crap...2 much....

lol I like the JDM stuff for exclusivity. Already cool enough that theres probably only about 40 magma red nismos that ever got sold since they made it for 1 year only out of 500 "supposed" production models a year. Hell maybe less. It will essentially make my car a 1 of 1, and I didnt even have to smother it with fast and furious aftermarket garbage to do it. aside from the turbo...... and the exhaust..... necessary evil I guess. All of it was manufactured BY the company that actually produces the car, specifically FOR the car so imo its not "aftermarket" as the word would normally be defined.

Honestly, if they would have given the Z at least 350-400 WHEEL hp from the factory I probably wouldn't even bother with forced induction at all. And the exhaust....... well we all know the stock Z sounds like 100% garbage, probably the worst sounding engine ive heard in 20 years from any car. But DAMN did they get the styling right, anyone who messes with that is running a fools errand.

real carbon fiber replacement pieces would be cool, wrapping stock pieces in cf=lame.

However, I do agree, anyone buying a Nismo for it's perceived collector value is crazy. Hell just about any car is going to depreciate and not be a true collectible short of a bugatti or a miata etc...
