I didn't actually pay that much in taxes, I did buy a security+ agreement on this car up to 75k miles which was most of that extra $$$.

If you are still looking you might consider purchasing the car ONLINE (maybe from a dealership in another state) and simply flying out to pick it up or having it shipped to you. $40k seems awfully expensive considering the pricing we are getting in Texas and it might be cheaper for you to do it that way.

it made my OTD price look so sad after i negotiated with the dealer.

I don't know what I was thinking. It was $2200 in tax, at 6.25%.
