Things that annoy me driving my Nismo

I've noticed things from other drivers on the road when I'm in my Nismo that I don't experience when I'm driving my FIT(daily car), and it irritates the hell outta me.

Vehicles ahead of me will slow down for me to get up to them. Vehicles behind me will speed up to catch up to me. I'm constantly surrounded by cars on all sides, like a herd of freakin cattle.

Vehicles at intersections will "peel off", even when they're going opposite direction or crossing in front of me. Light turns green and they're off to the races, as if flexing their muscles "Hey, look at me!"

I get it, being challenge by a car next to me at intersections.. I ignore them and let them take off. But then the ones BEHIND me will also rev engine and peel off, sometimes almost rear-end me, then aggressively change lanes to pass me. But once they get ahead, they slow their asses down so I would catch up to them, back to the "herd mentality"..

This happens from sports cars, sedans, pickups, Uhauls, priuses.. Every make and models..

I'll park in BFE in parking lots away from other cars. Come back out and there're cars parked next to me. C'on man..

Maybe where I'm at, there's not too many Nismos so they're rare to see. But dammit, it gets irritating lol. Sorry for the vent guys and gals

It happens, you get numb to it. Just think of how bad it would be if you drove a Porche GT3, Lambo, GTR, or some other exotic.
When they start trying to run you off the road because they have an issue, then you can complain. That has happened several times to me. I have had to change my driving style to "A good offense, is a good defense".

Things that annoy me driving my Nismo

I try to drive defensively as well.. try to stay a good distance away from cars ahead of me, also not stay to the side of a car (blind spots) too long by either slowing down or speeding up. That's why I get irritated when other cars intentionally stay close to me on purpose

I've had my 14 Nismo for 2 months now and I can't tell you on all my fingers and toes, how many times I have had run-ins with people like you are describing. Some have been pretty extreme. I drove through a parking lot to get some Taco Bell and some guys in trucks starting yelling and cussing at me, while I was on a date with my woman. Well, we ignore that, then they tried to stalk me on the highway. Dropped a gear and disappeared. But while it's hilarious in some cases, in other cases, it is absolutely annoying and gets very old. There are not a lot, if any, Nismos where I live but I didn't expect the kind of negative attention I would get.

BehindSpace 09-08-2016 06:02 PM

you chose to drive a a 'look at me, too cool for school' car.
the negative attention is not justified but should be expected.

i learned the hard way and sold my 2014 nismo for this reason.
the decision maker for me was having someone in an old pickup truck staring at me in his rearview mirror for over a mile on a 1 way highway. I wasnt tailgating by any means and knew he was staring because of the looks of the car (i was used to the attention by this point and had already been keyed). Then he slowed down about 20mph until i did close to him so he could empty his ashtray full of cigarrette butts and ash out his window directly onto my car.
I pulled off the road and realized it wasn't worth it, it was a no win situation taking the abuse or reacting to it.
car sold for a 14 thousand dollar loss after owning it for about 5 months.

a few hours before that i was waiting in line at a starbucks drivethru and had some guy glaring at me from the outside seating area, next thing i know he's gotten up walking directly behind my car to look to see what kind it is I guess then walks back and sits down while still meanmugging me.

a few days before that have some young kid trying to look hard in his mid 90's civic fly by and cut in front me almost clipping my front bumper pebbling my car with rocks and dust. we get to the light, i see him trying to say something to me and motioning to me so i roll down my window to hear "you feel my dust bitch?"

What??? You let someone else dictate what you can drive. You lost when that happened. I would have kicked that Civic guys door in. The old truck, I would have taken care of that too.

Things that annoy me driving my Nismo

Is it weird that Fearless, BehindSpace and myself have/had '14 Nismos? Is it the 2 tone that get these reactions? Lol

No, I have gotten the same with a 2012 and 2013 Nismo. First of all, don't let it get under your skin. Deal with the situation and move on peacefully. Hard to do sometimes.

mikewo6o 09-08-2016 10:42 PM

Is it just Nismo's that get all this negative attention? Does the average non-Z owner know the difference between a Nismo and a Base Z from a distance, other than perhaps the wing?

I read with interest the issues some of you have had and would agree it would get very aggravating. In my area, I get no attention at all with my '14 Base Z, either positive or negative...guess I am lucky. I might as well be driving a Honda Accord.

Guess the country bumpkins think it is an exotic car in my area. LOL

Ventruck 09-09-2016 12:34 AM

Z's are still leaning to being uncommon, so they do yield all kinds of attention. Only time I really set off is when I simply want distance from what I presume to be a reckless driver.

Other day Mr. Civic with his tasteless blue lights tried denying my lane change. He was a couple car lengths back and we were coming off a stop light so it's not like he was already "at speed". He knew exactly what he was trying to do.

So I get in, find a legit grandpa in my way, and casually go around. Civic is literally on my tail for no good reason through that sequence. Road was then clear and well, you know.

It's really just the econocar drivers that give me problems. Sounds snobbish but I mean the Z isn't entirely the definition of "fast" in the face of a V8 and so forth. So in other words, I don't think these people understand they're legitimately...slow. Straights and corners, even worse at braking as well. Imagine the sudden gap when you short stop someone and take off right away.

And I really emphasize econocars and family cars in general (vans and SUV's) because Miata and FR-S drivers never try anything with me. Like, they "get it".

:icon18: I get the same treatment in my none nismo base. Jealousy maybe? Who knows... Actually I started running with cameras this week and I have an audible Focus w/fart cannon rev while trying to get me race him and also a Golf did it as well. Can't a man just drive and enjoy his sports car without hassle? Probably not, haters gonna hate. I'll see if I can find that clip, I just laughed it off but can be annoying.

Cyber370 09-09-2016 05:22 AM

Wow, I don't know if it's just your neck of the woods but in my area I get nothing but respect. The Civic kids will slow down but only to give me thumbs up. I even had an M3 driver come beside me once trying to see what it was. He had a confused but impressed look on his face. He did not rev his engine or try to race. He just respectfully kept his distance.

By the way, a 370Z Nismo is as rare as a unicorn in my area.

I was hassled all the time with my previous car, Corvette C5. You would not believe all the hate that car got.

In the end, you need to drive what you like regardless of what people think. You need to learn to ignore them. Just remember that 99% of those drivers would never try that sh!t in person. They're just cowards hiding behind the veil of anonymity and perceived protection their car offers.

Id say it's the Nismos particularly 2014 with the 2 tone and big wing. I always thought id get less attention in a ferrari than that car when i drove it and im not joking. Mine was red which probably added to to the effect.

alangoooo 09-09-2016 11:21 AM

Wow you guys have had some pretty rough encounters. I usually get positive remarks about my car, at one point someone asked if it was a Porsche, but I said it was an electric car.

I sometimes do have people that like tailing me on the freeway, but I just give them a brake check and they usually back off.

The only thing I'm really worried about is parking in public places, I never street park and i park in the very front of the mall or wherever I am so there are lots of people and I can run back to my car.

KMO-II 09-09-2016 02:25 PM

I get the same thing too on the daily, yesterday was a Cadillac Escalade and a BRZ ...

Streetlife 09-09-2016 03:02 PM

It happens to me here in Houston all the time, just glad that i have a daily driver and love driving. I just enjoy driving my girl Vanity more every time i sit behind the wheel, hate on haters.:happydance:

MagmaRed370z 09-09-2016 03:14 PM

I get the same living up here in the northern US. I got used to it.

david81968 09-09-2016 03:28 PM

I have the 16 NISMO in red. Even in South Florida it is flashy to some. I've gotten many compliments and many "what is that?" looks. Most people here that don't know cars well think it is some new Porsche. We have some of the most aggressive azzhat drivers. Down here, you not only have to drive defensively, you have to think before you overreact as many are packing heat in their cars. There are neighborhoods I won't even drive the z through in the daytime.

So, I found and edited the video to show an example. I will try to embed it, if it does not go through I will leave the link.

Explanation: I was going 40 in a 35 to begin with but this Ford Focus decided to make a point to catch up with me, rev his engine, then after going past was matching my speed. He did not pull away at first, I slowed down as not to oblige in an illegal street race. Then he pulled away just to slow quickly and make a left turn. :shakes head: My voice does not usually sound like that, I was being a smart @ss!

I get nothing but love in my Nismo.

NISMO IX 09-10-2016 01:01 AM

Around here it is either N/A 4 bangers or over compensating pickup trucks that carry on that behavior. In my town, one of the police officers told me that they "have trouble with some of the locals, street racing their crappy cars". I don't want them to ever have the impression, THAT is what do with my car.

GMB14U2NV 09-10-2016 02:53 AM

Rather than try and quote a bunch of posts already, I'll just say the obvious.....
It happens everywhere and not just to Z's. All sport or fast rides get the "teenager to late 20 something (got something to prove) race-egger, gas punching, Folger Can exhaust rasping" boneheads trying to see if they can out run something known to be fast.

Here is a good one for the post:
Chery and I had a GTR until recently. (there is a story in itself......) Every D*$! time we took it out - Camaro's / Stang's / 4 Banger's with "bee stinger's" / Challenger's / Charger's / and Vette's wanted to run it. It's when we got stopped a few times and accused of racing that we knew - we had to give that dream up.

We are in our 40's and getting popped for street racing because of the numbnuts around us!!!???? (It comes with the territory of owning sports cars.)

Since we got the Z - we still see it - but different cars make the challenge's now.

My personal favorite's are the Acura's and Civic's that have 10" cans on them, but look like 200,000 mile cars and are at 6,000 rpm and just crawling away from stop light's. WTF!?!?!? is he/she trying to do???? LMFAO!!!!:rofl2:

As for our former GTR - It's one of these Civic's with 200,000 miles that took care of that disposal. He looses control, bashes the center barrier, and right back into my left side sending me to the right barrier. $100,000 gone in an instant. And his money bag parent's tried to get lawyers to pin it on us!!!! The witnesses in court stated he came from nowhere and started being stupid and only driving 6 mo's being wreckless.....

Needless to say - if my wife and I are fortunate to have had a GTR and other mid range cars at the time in our "stable".......

Yeah, in court - lil "money bags junior" and affluenza mommy & daddy were :owned: BIOT@#$!!!!

He'll be 21 before he drives again!!!

OldFart 09-10-2016 03:01 AM

As stated by JC above, I don't get hassled at all and for the most part get compliments and thumbs up about the car.

NISMO IX 09-10-2016 03:48 AM

I will admit, it is actually mixed, Compliments and Dbags. Not saying it is a curse owning this car and is all negative, of course not!

By the way, for those that have never heard of it before, I took this from the Urban Dictionary(did not want to offend anyone...):

RICE - Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements

"(Ricer: from the latin word Ricarius meaning to suck at everything you attempt)

A person who makes unecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to):

- Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder
- Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747
- Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool
- Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself
- Bodykit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire
- Clear tail lights and corner signals
- A "performace intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine)
- Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therfore not always considered rice. It really depends on the severity of the case.

The "ricer" attempts to make their car "performance" by adding the modifications listed above. These ricers are not confined to any one ethnic group or color, however different ethnic groups are known for certain styles."

Wow mostly I get lots of respect on the road. Mostly by guys who fan girl the car

Nithmo 09-10-2016 01:07 PM

I picked my '16 Nismo about 3 months ago. I bought the car because I loved it, but I didn't think anyone really cared about it. I mean, no one talks about it on the net (besides on this forum :D), I never see "sightings" pics, you don't see a lot of them on the road (it's not THAT expensive of a sporty car, and well within the means of many people), etc.

I couldn't believe how much attention this car garners. Before the Nismo, I had a 2007 dark blue Miata GT with the power folding hard top, on white wheels, supercharged and loud as hell... That car got quite a lot of attention.

And then I got the Nismo. Holy hell, this car, in completely stock form, garners 20 times more attention, from anyone and everyone. I can't believe how many people openly stare, how often people roll down their windows to ask about the car, people snapping photos, people trying to catch up to me while driving to see the car, etc.

I like keeping my cars as OEM looking as possible, save for, maybe some nicer wheels. I don't even like tint (cops are brutal for tint here). I'm now strongly considering getting tinted windows because I feel I'm always being watched, lol.

I haven't had bad interactions though. Always positive. Well, one kind of bad one, but the guy was trying to get me to race his older 335i sedan, with 4 people in it, lol. But other than that, everyone is nice. Maybe it's a Canada vs US thing? I don't feel Canadians are nicer. It's just a made up stereotype. But I never anticipated anyone even paying much attention to this car, maybe save for the occasional Nissan enthusiast. It blows my mind.

Nithmo 09-10-2016 01:12 PM

The icing on the cake was when the wife and I were going for brunch on our anniversary. On the way to the place, two Lambos pull up beside me, and while I was drooling over their cars, I noticed those guys were looking at the Nismo! Pretty sure they could've easily bought 3 Nismos each, but hey, getting the attention of guys like that is a thumbs up in my books :D

ayrton88 09-10-2016 04:37 PM

I have to say I have learned to dislike all the attention my car gets. I bought it because I thought it was a great combination of looks and performance. I really didn't bargain for all the attention it gets. My next car will be much more of a sleeper. Here in Chicago, I have learned that it is best not to draw too much attention to oneself.

ChiefPat 09-10-2016 05:06 PM

I drove by a school yesterday and all the kids were outside, staring and pointing as I drove by.

Sometimes I get the Mustang or Camaro guys that try and race, or the STis, but I don't race on the street anymore, I just let them waste their gas on stoplight launches. Besides, the Z is about corners and handling, not drag racing. If I wanted to drag race I would have bought something with a V8 and a solid rear axle.

Haven't really had any aggressive encounters. I live between a city and a hick town and go to the hick town gas station pretty frequently. I get lots of love everywhere I go in the Nismo. It's crazy, never had a car get this much attention.

Dude pulled up next to me at hick town gas station and was like "God damn man, that mutherfucker is badass dude!!" "How much horsepower?" "Oh damn! And it's manual too?? ******* sick!" In the typical southern/hick accent haha. People love these cars! Enjoy!

N1SMOZ 09-10-2016 09:50 PM

I've noticed that too. It's extremely annoying. Everyone seems the need to challenge you.

I get both the good and bad stuff.

The good. I've had people pull up next to me and give me the  People taking pictures and video of me going down the highway. Getting gas, people come up and start talking about the Nismo or talk about the older Z that they once owned. Kids in school buses sticking their heads out the windows. :icon17: Just had a little kid on a bicycle just about run into me. He was staring so hard at the car. He got target fixation. :icon17: I had to jump a red light to keep him from hitting me. :icon14:

The bad. Fly-bys. Cruising down the road, and have some ricer blow by me at double the speed limit. Or have them come up next to me and rev the crap out of their motor. Bouncing it off the rev limiter. :icon17: Keep waiting for one to blow. Tail gaters. Morons hanging on the rear bumper for miles. Or have the idiot run up then back off, then repeat it. At a stop light. Get ricky-ricer who wants to do the GP red light race. Sits there and has the gas pedal mashed to the floor. Waiting for the light to change. Giving you the want to race look. I give him the yes look back. Rev the engine a little. The light turns green, and I sit there laughing.

That right there is key. The effect is even better when there's a cop around. Ricer ricky is too busy focusing on the light to notice.
