Congrats on the purchase! I bought my '12 NISMO used (just last year), and I opted not to get any kind of extended warranty. It only had 7k miles on it when I got it, so hopefully it doesn't bite me in the butt!

Those warranties deals are another money maker for the dealers. I have not purchased one nor I had a misfortune to need one neither.
Look at it this way, multiply the amount that goes into the "gold warranty" times the number of payments of the car. Lets use a hypothetical number, $35 per month per 72 months. 35x12x6= $2,520 at the end of your payments. Then take in consideration how often you drive your vehicle. In my case I had my Z for almost 6 months and I have not put 1,800 miles on it. So most likely I'll put less than 5,000 miles per year. By the time I'm done making my payments I'll have about 30,000 miles but my 3 years will be obsolete by then. Nissan warranty is 3 years/36,000 basic stuff and 5 years/60,000 powertrain. Since I have had my fair share of Z's plus given my driving style, it is unlikely that I would need something out of the ordinary when it comes to warranty. A belt, battery, alternator and the alike are things that I can do myself, don't cost that much and I would be saving hundreds and even thousand in the end. If you want to pay it then go for it, at least will give you a fallback plan in case something happens. If you drive it like you stole it then you need extra warranties and the help of God to cover for repairs. If you drive it "normal" or easy then I would not be looking at buying extra coverage.
Then there is the other aspect, if you are mechanically inclined and don't mind doing the labor yourself then there is no need on buying something that you are not going to use.
I hope it helps on your decision.

Those extended warranties always end up not covering everything down the road. I don't trust them.

If your going to be modding your car it's pretty pointless to get an extended warranty since it will just give them more excuses to not honor the warranty. The gold one seems to cover everything but I would make sure it doesn't specifically exclude items like the clutch or brakes.
IMO Compare the total cost of the warranty and figure is it worth it for you. Also many insurance companies offer mechanical break down coverage for cheap on new cars and you have a few months from purchase to get one of those.
The most costly thing that people need to replace early is the CSC and then you'll still want to pay out of pocket for an aftermarket replacement, so the warranty would only cover labor costs, guessing $600-800.

What is Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI)?
Mechanical Breakdown Insurance covers many mechanical repairs to your car, protecting you from expensive repair bills. This coverage is only available for vehicles with less than 15,000 miles that have been purchased within the last 15 months. A $250 deductible per claim applies. Mechanical Breakdown Insurance is similar to a dealer's extended warranty protection. It's in excess of coverage provided by the manufacturer's warranty.

Mechanical Breakdown Insurance covers repairs to the following systems:

Engine, Steering, Air Conditioning, Transmission, Cooling, Brakes, Drive Axle, Suspension, Electrical

EXCLUSIONS: MBI does not include regular maintenance services such as tune-ups, suspension alignment, wheel balancing, filters, lubrication, coolant and fluids, spark plugs, brake pads and lining, brake shoes and tires (includes tire wear and/or tire damage). Breakdown repairs made necessary by intentional damage, rust and oxidation, misuse, or improper maintenance are not covered. Mechanical Breakdown coverage is in excess of coverage provided by the manufacturer's warranty.

From my policy runs a little bit under 200 a year. I waited a year to get it added because the factory warranty still covers a lot.

IF your going to tune your car, that is, remove or modify in ANY way the electronic controls which make the car go (fuel/air flow), the factory warranty becomes NIL.

There is no point to extending a warranty if you tune the car. You are "giving" your money away. They will see it and not honor the warranty in case of any internal engine, tranny damage.

Decided to keep it as all I'll be doing is suspension. Loving the car so far. Still getting used to the notchy clutch and not broken in shifter.

I just purchased my Nismo Tech on Saturday and also went with the gold. I'm coming from the Honda scene and rather unsure on the long term reliability of this Nismo. Not that expensive vs the price of the car, and I bought into the idea that I can cancel if my research and/or experience determine otherwise but the fact that it's transferable was also a bit appealing if should decide for some reason to sell or trade it in for something else, for example.
