Default New to forum, not new to Z's - Looking for your feedback -

Just joined and looking for advice. I am considering upgrading from my 2003 G35 RWD Sedan to either a 370Z or a G37 coupe. i am looking for a used one.

What is the concensus on this forum of the NISMO vs the base or touring 370Z?

Is the performance that much better with the NISMO to justify higher price?

What about syncrorev option?

i like the G for luxury and comfort, have any of you gone from a G coupe to a 370Z?

Are there certain models or years to avoid for the 370Z? Consumer report slams the reliability of the 370Z

I also have a 72 240Z that I am restoring.

I will appreciate any and all replies.

Welcome. Every one of those questions has at least a handful of threads that answer your questions in length, so I recommend some searching.

Looking forward to more pics of the 240.

OK,

So I yesterday I test drove a 2012 370 roadster with the sport and nav package and auto tranny. The car had brass balls. Loved the paddle shifters. The only reason I would consider an auto trans is because I drive 100 miles a day to Boston and am stuck in stop and crawl most days. Loved the car but realized I don't want a roadster. I was shocked how much road noise comes through the top even with it up and the windows closed. The asking price for this car is $38500 and it has 7200 miles.

Today I test drove a 2012 liquid platinum 370 Sport with 6 spd manual and syncrorev. The car was bought at auction by the local Nissan dealer and only has 900 miles on it. Holly crap, this car seemed so much quicker than the roadster. Love the brakes and the 19" rays. The car looks drop dead gorgeous and menacing at the same time. They are asking $32,900 for the car. They are going to cerify the power train. I think I can get this car for around $30,000. I wish it had the Nav package.

Given my commuting situation what would you recomment, auto or manual transmission? Also yesterday I drove a 2008 G37 X coupe and it was really nice. Not as quick as the Z. I have a searched the internet within a 1000 miles of RI and I could not find one G37 coupe with a sports package.

Thanks again for any feedback.

I would not want to drive this car that far every day in stop and go traffic with a 6MT. Not becasue of it being a MT, but because this MT, I have found to be very annoying to drive.

Every car before the Z I have owned was a MT so it isnt a learning issue or bad driving. All my clutches lasted well over 100k miles.

That being said I happen to own one of each transmission for this car and the AT is just as fun to drive hard (when you want to) as the MT.

Thanks for the quick reply Mr and Mrs. Can you expand on why you find this 6MT very annoying to drive?

If I wanted to take the car on the track one day or do auto cross wouldn't I be better with a manual transmission?

I no longer do any kind of tracking, but in theory yes a MT would fare better. I have read of a few guys that track the 7AT and seem to enjoy it.

For me the clutch engagement point and feel just does not exist in this car. Even with an aftermarket helper spring. It also never seems to act the same from one time I drive it to the next, (this is starting in 1st and transfer to 2nd gear) it’s very odd.

HOWEVER for spirited driving the MT is more fun than the 7AT in my book. That is just based on feeling more in control even though the AT has lightning fast response in manual mode and blips the throttle.

My first response was based on your daily driving habbits and neither of my Z's are daily drivers. So I guess you will need to determine on your own what works best for you.

Having come from a G35S sedan 2 the Z the thing i noticed immediately was the road noise and seats that were no where near as comfy as my G. Really two different worlds....but i love the rawness of the Z. I smile everyday when i push the button and hear the sick sound of my FI CBE!
