Default Hello from Central Illinois

Name is Gary and I've finally hit the midlife crisis at age 52.

I've decided to look at a fun car to drive rather than limiting myself to a Honda Accord and F150 Ford truck. They cover all of the utilitarian functions I have, but I want something fun.

The three cars I'm looking at are 1) Mazda MX5, 2) Nissan 370Z, 3) C6 Corvette.

My major concern with the 370Z is Consumer Reports Predicted Reliability score from their April 2011 issue which is the lowest level.

Why do they think the 370Z will be unreliable?

One fellow speculated the engine of the 350Z had problems and the 370Z engine was a modified version of that engine and would be prone to more problems. I have no idea.

So what are the major maintenance problems with the 370Z?

When I bought my Gl1800 Goldwing motorcycle or the 2004 Rune, both forums were a wealth of information about the various problems associated with each year and type of bike.

Thanks for your help.

Gary

Are there any well know problems with any of the years?

Any problems specific to the convertible?

Thanks,

Gary

welcome to the forums Gary, having been browsing these forums for the past 6 months or so i can tell you that the whole consumer reports reliability report is way overblown as far as what problems they are reporting. There are members of this forums that did have some overheating issues with the oil in this car, but it is not the norm for the 370 and the majority of the time the overheating issues are being reported by people that take the car to the track for extended periods of time and can be easily remedied with an aftermarket oil cooler which is also readily available. The only other minor issues i have heard of are the rear hatch getting stuck after you press the release button which as far as i know has been fixed in more recent models for the most part.
