Looking to get a Z. Graduated college + got a job 3 yrs. ago, got a few raises, just finished paying student loans off, saving up now for a down payment.

So - what's a good month to buy a Z? (seriously!) Thinking about Early next year. What's a good down payment? $10k?

Color I want them to make: ORANGE.

Transmission.. well.. I'm not good at stick, so it makes me want to do auto. But everyone is like "Whattt you can't get auto on that car!" like I'd be lame if I did. What say you?

Good to meet you folks, finally. Been drooling over Zs since I saw one on campus 7 years ago!! Lots of decisions were made with the Z in mind.

Eazy,

First, welcome bro.

As far as a good month to buy, your best time to buy is actually November-December, if you'd consider buying a 2010, because the 2011's will be right next to them on the lot, and you can really haggle them down. Big reason is that if they don't sell the 2010, they pay tax on it for another year at the end of december. Plus, winter is a time when the market for sports cars slows down, so you can get a bargain. Food for thought.

I can't answer the down payment question. I don't know what's good for you and what you can afford.

Orange would look sick on this car.

As for transmission, I suggest test driving them both and conversing with some of the 7AT owners on this board. Buy what feels right. Who cares what other folks are saying?

I hope that helps.

Looks like you planned well . Like me I yearned for the Z since the 350Z came out and just recently managed to get one to my specifications. No regrets and thoroughly loving it.
Shadoquad's advice is spot on. Definitely more bargaining power if you can find or get one on the dealer's lot but I will start searching from September onwards.
With regards to MT or Auto , I've driven MT all my life, but like others have said , this Z's MT is fairly clunky in lower gears. It all depends on your driving needs and conditions.

Thanks for the replies, folks. I'll lurk no more
by December, huh..... hm.. I feel like I want to wait for the 2011 and see if they have anything spectacular to make me fall in love with

Thanks again, and I'll see you on the boards

Eazy, nothing says you should buy by the end of 2010. It's just that late in the model year almost always nets the best bargain prices, at the considerable cost of a lack of selection. If you've got a plan and want to stick to it by waiting to look in 2011, stick to your guns. But hopefully they'll start showing us 2011 Z's soon.

Whatever way you go, I hope you get exactly the one that makes you happy!
