Default New to building a drift car

Hi everyone and thanks for looking. I picked up a 2011 touring Z 6m with 90k stock but oh so clean. Im Currently doing small cosmetic changes until I am educated enough to purchase the proper equipment. (Kaaz 2 ?) My build plans are to drift on the weekend , change wheels, and drive for 4+ hours city or highway. Budget around 5k.

Here's the rough draft plans..

1st month cosmetic and yaw. - already in the mail.
2nd month tires
3rd month 2dif ? with 3.9 gears

This random one wheel spin is driving me nuts. At about 1 out of 4 power slides. Or finishing a burn out with one wheel... WHY!?

Any and all info is very appreciated. I plan to be a active member here. Thanks all!

Save money and just weld the diff, your open diff is famous on s chassis because they are super solid. If 5k is your budget don’t do suspension, I was happy drifting on stock angle and suspension. I have over 6k just in coilovers, angle, toe arms, camber arms, traction arms etc and you can’t do one without the other.

You'll want to disable the yaw sensor if you're going to be drifting.

very insightful info. Thank you. Yup suspension is out of the equation for this year. Is a welded dif simply weld and go? Anything else I should mod or disable?

Didn't even know about the yaw sensor. Thank you. Will do that when I do the cosmetics soon.

You will have to either clip your yaw wire or put it on a switch like I did. I should have just clipped it because the car will not let you drive with a welded diff without it deactivated. Yes all you do is take your diff out and weld the spider gears, put new fluid in it and get to sliding. Prepare for all sorts of scary noises though.

Here are some tips from what I have learned.

1. Gas tank must be full all the way or you will fuel cut.
2. Do poly diff bushings when welding the diff.
3. Get an oil cooler or just remember to do a cool down after drifting.
4. Pull brake lamp fuse if you want to use foot brake while in drift.
5. Stock handbrake works fine but if you want to do hydro hand brake you must do dual caliper if you plan on being safe on public roads for the in line hydro dink’s with your abs.
6. Run 245s or smaller on rear to start out. Just get the cheapest rear tire possible.
