I understand it has to do with your wife´s Beamer and it´s happening the next weeks, but I just don´t get the full meaning.
You coming over here?

I´m looking forward to another 3 weeks of fun insanity!

No, next years o'fest: we will be picking up the z4 over there and then hopefully also going to the ring. BMW has a program where you can pick up the car in Munich, drive in Europe for up to a month, then drop off in any of about a dozen cities. The best part is it's 7 percent cheaper price than buying at the dealer, and I am an airline pilot, so we fly for free!. Last time we went to Ofest, we stayed at a small b&b in Hohenschaftlarn.

Ok, got it now, thanks!
Sounds like a plan.
On your job, do you fly over here from time to time or mostly domestic?
If you´re flying into Munich on the job and not only as an o´fest pax, chances are we already talked.
I´m a Munich TRACONtroller.

Sorry for disappointing those expecting something even more curvaceous...

From your point of view, I´m not "up north" but rather far east, kinda 'cross da pond 'n' stuff.
Us old-worlders all get the rear wiper as standard, I guess, as well as the rear fog light.

The tags are custom, as far as possible.
Here in Germany, the tags are standardized like this:
First 1-3 letter group has to be the city or county you live in.
Major Cities are single-letter (B=Berlin, M=Munich), smaller cities or counties are 2 or 3 letters.
Then has to follow a 1 or 2 letter group and then a 1 to 4 digit number.
Many communities allow to customize those last two groups within the rules and if not already taken, of course.
Many people do it, to get their initials and birthdates onto their car tag.
For my city (ED=Erding), "ED Z 370" was already taken, so I added my first name initial and took "ED WZ 370" which was free.
Something including "370Z" will not be possible in my country due to the abovementioned rules.
If no custom registration is requested, the community administration will assign a random one.
Customs tags cost me €12.- extra added to the registration fee.
Gotcha. For some reason, I was geographically challenged this morning (I blame the lack of coffee in my system) and thought you were posting from Canada. Technically though, I think you may be a little north, as well as considerably east. Now that I know you are in Germany, that's cool. Hopefully you are getting to see the sights and experience all the culture there - I keep telling myself one year I am going to go to Oktoberfest and drive the Nurburgring, but not necessarily in that order.

It all makes sense now - thanks for explaining the plates situation. I didn't even notice the front and rear parking sensors until I went back and looked for them. Enjoy your Z, I'm sure there are plenty of awesome roads there.

I used to fly in there, but I have moved on to the ultra long haul stuff now. Asia, India, S Africa, Mid East and Australia (Delta air)

I had a look at your gallery - really nice!!!

You are the first German I know so far, who has got his Z.
And as it is almost exactly the one which I ordered a few weeks ago, I can imagine clearly right now, what the car will look like when it arrives.

Can't await November to come

By the way: I think I have to order the sideplates as well, they look really classy!

And what's the story behind the funny slogan on your plate: "Jet noise, the sound of freedom"?
I have to think of you driving around the area near Frankfurt (where I live), where a lot of people would get really annoyed by this

Have fun with your car!

In the mid-'90ies I served in the Luftwaffe.
In 2006, I found this plateholder at a merchandising booth in the Netherlands while visiting the RNLAF Opendaagen at Leeuwarden Airbase.
I went there because it was the first time in 30 years that the USN Blue Angels displayed in Europe.

I live very close to and work at Munich airport, Germany´s second largest after Frankfurt.
I bought the holder and now finally put it on for my own pure pleasure.
But of course, I have certain beliefs that stand behind me liking the plateholder.

- Most Germans unjustifiedly take their freedom and peace for granted and generaly look down upon their military as an almost unneccessay and outdated profession.

- In the regions around Frankfurt and Munich airports people tend to forget whom they owe their wealth or jobs, directly or indirectly.
Farmers around Erding and Freising were able to stop working and became millionaires just by selling their land to housing projects when the airport was opened in 1992.
Now all surrounding communities are fighting against the planned 3rd runway.
They ignore why they are amongst the richest communities in Germany and those with the lowest unemployment rate despite global crisis.
FRAPORT is Germany´s largest employer, employee number wise.
Frankfurt would not be Germany´s and continental Europe´s financial center without Rhein/Main International.
Still, the whole region fights its airport for over 40 years.

People are stupid.
If someone is stupid enough to touch my Z for the plateholder slogan, he´s up for some Darwinian extinction.
