Default Just got my new Z, Question for the rest of you

Just picked up my new 370 last week. Brand new, but a 2010 model touring/sport MB 7AT no nav. 25% off the sticker with full warranty!

Now for my question...

On the way home from the dealership (about 400 miles), I averaged about 25 mpg all highway driving which I thought was pretty good. After a few days of aggressive around town driving getting used to it, I reset the MPG and tried to drive "normal" to see what kind of mileage I could get for my daily commute. After starting with some pretty disappointing numbers, I started driving in soccer mom territory. Moderate improvement but not much. Over a week of driving with no aggressive acceleration I'm only averaging 16.5 MPG. Is this normal? It been probably 70 degrees here on average. I expected it would be 19 at a minimum, especially with the granny driving. FYI I'm running 94 octane in it during this test.

I have noticed that the engine bay seems ungodly hot, and on a hotter 80+ degree day the car felt choked out a bit. All my temps are right where they should be, so I guess this may just be a false perception.

Thanks!

Most people get 19-21, as seen in this thread:

What's your average MPG for your 370z?

So what you're getting is a little under.

Calculate your own mpg. Never let a car do it for you.

I'd say the AC was on about 50% of the time.

I searched and saw other peoples numbers, but I guess my question was whether or not this happens early on in new cars. Forgot to say that in the first post.

Normally I wouldn't be too concerned, but I'm pretty far beneath the average even while driving to try for more MPGs. Anything I can do about this, or any idea if it's something Nissan would look into for me?

I've read that people have had better results after the car breaks in. I can't remember what I got that early on though.

I think I'd be more concerned as to why a "brand new" 2010 Z would still be available for sale.

I was averaging around 19 mpg according to the car for the first 2500 miles (I have a 2012 AT Touring Sport). Now, at 3100, I'm just under 21, so it does get better as it breaks in.

I think it would also depend on how much stop and go driving you experience in the city. I have like 10-15 lights and stop signs to go through just to get to work which is like a 3 mile drive and my mpg is like 14 but when I drive in the city not towards my work location i get close to 19-21 mpg.

I didn't know there were still 2010's new sitting around, but I'm sure you got a killer deal. MPG's get better with mileage. Congrats!

I get ~16 MPG and do no highway driving typically, I don't think your numbers are out of the ordinary. The mpg difference between highway driving and city driving with this car is enormous.

+1..... I have about 350 miles on mine & I was at 21.4 mpg. As stated it is all based on if it is highway or city driving. If city then mpg will be less & would also be less if you have a lot of stop & go traffic & stop lights/stop signs.

As it breaks in everything will get a bit looser in the motor and spin more freely which will increase your MPG.
I am always and when I see the questions about MPG from a sports car owner anyways. If that was a factor, why not just buy a prius?
