Default Just Traded for used 2009 370Z

Just traded in my NSX for used 2009 370Z with 19,600 miles, about first one sold in my town in Feb, 2009.

It's Magnetic Black with Persimmon interior (grew on me), 370Z Touring automatic with Sport, Navigation, Carpets, Splash Guards and Illuminated Sills.

Gas gauge appears to be working fine , has a few paint chips, little driver bolster wear, but brand new RE050A tires put on by dealer.

I'll get some pictures up after it is washed.

LOL

Long story, but my 1991 NSX was using $1k - $2k in repairs every six months, and the Acura loaner always had the modern gadgets my car didn't, plus I'd end up driving the loaner for 2 - 6 weeks, so I only had 83% of an NSX and I was paying half a car payment for it still.

Can't quite justify a Cayman S PDK, couldn't find a newer black automatic NSX after two years (only 19 in the US I was interested in, they don't come up for sale very often), so the 370Z seemed like a good alternative, and when this one was traded in just as I was looking at 2010's out of town, it seemed too easy to buy in town.

welcome aboard, I can't wrap my head around selling the NSX either, but I'm sure you'll enjoy your new Z. Congrats on your purchase.

why not? the nsx was a great car and all, but definitely not a supercar. if i recall correctly they weren't all that fast either at least by today's standards. i would say the z would be able to match the performance and have a newer and fresher look and feel.

Good trade.

Older cars, even nice ones become money pits to keep up as a daily driver. You won't miss the NSX for long

The 370Z definitely accelerates faster than the NSX, though the top speed is much lower. That doesn't bother me.

I think the NSX looks are much more timeless and classic, but the 370Z looks much better than the 350Z and is very aggressive compared to the NSX, which I like.

The NSX is better engineered and may be a better driver (too soon for me to tell), but it's amenities are very 1991. I think I will enjoy a faster, more convenient and more gadgety vehicle that I won't feel I can't modify. And that I can afford to modify

It was close to being a supercar for it's time. the materials used to make it were pretty cutting edge and it handles great. It's like a mk IV supra type car imo, just a classic from a different time to hang onto. Not good as your only car, but great to keep in your garage if you can swing it.

it definitely had some exotic and innovative engineering accomplishments. but it wasn't anywhere close to supercar status, even if honda thinks so. back then you had the mclaren f1, porsche 959, ferrari 355, f40, lambo diablo, jag xj220.

You can see pictures of the two NSX I had at
Pete's NSX
and
Pete's 2nd NSX

As for not being a supercar, the NSX came out in 1991 and its Ferrari competition was the 348. The NSX was faster, cheaper, more reliable, and all aluminum with VTEC compared to the steel framed Ferrari. As for the Mclaren F1, its designer, Gordon Murray, says the NSX was the car that inspired it.
Gordon Murrary says McLaren F1's benchmark was NSX - Lamborghini Forum

As a magazine recently said, the NSX was tuned by Ayrton Senna:
Ayrton Senna & Acura NSX - The Asphalt Jungle Editorial - Motor Trend

And as every article on the Audi R8 mentions, it is the spiritual successor to the NSX.

It isn't a supercar in 2010, or even 2000 (though Ferrari was just catching up), but it was a supercar in 1991. Like the Lamborghini Countach (which weighed more, was slower to 60 and had a lower top speed) once a supercar, always a supercar.

At least you can say you owned a black NSX.

All I can say is that I owned a black Scirocco. Which was a supercar, um...never.

I'm pretty sure you'll love the z!
