Question Almost new owner with a question & a problem. Need some advice pls

I've got a question for all you guys. So I put a downpayment on a car last week. I got a really good deal, almost $500 under Invoice. Dealer was trading with another dealer 50 miles away, I was supposed to pick up the car today, but the other dealer now doesnt want to trade the car. I know, just my luck.

Only other, similarly optioned, in my color is about 300-400 miles north. Do I take the risk of them driving it down here and potentially screwing up the break-in of the new car (driving highway speed for a few hundred miles, etc.)? Or do I try to go for a different color, and see if they have anything?
Third option would be to wait and get one from factory, I guess, any idea how long that would take?

Thoughts?

Try getting them to deliver it in an enclosed trailer! Maybe the dealer will even pay for some of it because of the inconvience he is causing you!

They don't want to ship it! A..holes!
I kind of see their point, they're barely making any money, if at all, on this car. If you add a shipping charge on top of it, they really would be in the red. Anyone have any idea on how much shipping is in the NE, say about 400 miles. If it's just a few hundred bucks, I'd just as well split it with them, but I doubt they'd go for anything like that.

If you place your order now. Factory build for this cycle is March, plus shipping time.
When you are that far behind invoice taking into account the dealer has to pay drivers, or shipping, plus rechecking the PDI to make sure the origional dealer completed it correctly, they are at a push.
Asking them to pay to ship a vehicle in for you at an expense to them, or screwing them at delivery as someone stated sounds like you don't want a relationship with this dealer for the long haul.

So what do you guys think, should I just have them bring down the other car, ~400 miles?

My biggest concern is the "break-in" of the car. How concerned should I really be about that?

I'm the type of guy that won't buy a new car with more than 30 miles on it. When I bought my 350z, one dealer told me the car i wanted would be driven to their dealership and another dealer told me it would be brought in on a flatbed.

I am pretty sure they won't mess up your car on the drive, but expect paint chips.

Thanks for the response. I'm not that concerned about pain chips. At the end of the day, it is a car, and it's my daily driver, sh*t is going to happen. I think that if they tell me tomorrow that they definitely can't get the car from the jacka** dealership that's throwing a little fit; I'll probably opt to have the other car brought Kind of a no-win, no-win situation

Here are some choices:
Make sure that the 400mi away dealer is willing to part with the car first.
Get a flatbed quote from the selling dealer transporter that they use to ship their auction car back and forth, they usually have a working relationship with the dealer.
Go with the driver and drive your new Z back yourself if you are concerned about someone else driving it.
If you are having the dealer drive the vehicle in for you (the factory only pays shipping once for the vehicle to get to the ordering dealership), put a clause on your purchase order stipulating a final inspection by you for flaws prior to taking final delivery. That will put the responsibility for chips and scratches back onto the selling dealer instead of you. As far as break in, I wouldn't worry too much about it, I don't think the driver is going to hold the vehicle at redline for the whole trip.

Thanks Phil for laying out the options and offering some good advice. I should hear from the dealer about the "near by" car at 1pm today. If that's no-go, going to have to explore the other options as above.

Just looking to pick up a base with manual in PG color. Might have to settle for a silver color, worse case scenario

I'll ask if maybe they have a base with the aerodynamics package (was going to consider getting a simple spoiler later myself, although I kind of like it without one, but if that gets me out of this predicament, it may just be worth it).

There are only two in the New England area on ground. The only other PG Z's in your color have a sport package. There are 2 base and 3 with sport on ground total for New England.

I'd find another car or pay to have the car enclose-trailered. Other-wise you're asking for trouble. I knew people that worked for dealerships that would "transport" a car they just sold someone 30-40 miles away. They mostly sold Corvettes. When the new Z06 came out, they hot-rodded those cars ALL THE WAY home! They told me about how fast they were and how awesome they are, and my reply was "Dude! That's someone else's car. When you can buy that car, you can do it on your own dime." And they said "They'll never know and who cares? Everyone does it."

You can imagine why I'm so hostile about buying a new car like this.

Having them drive it to you FTL.
