Anyone have "a friend" who uses a radar detector in VA?

I'm sure none of you run radar detectors in VA, but I was wondering if anyone has a "friend" who has? I'm not asking because I would ever do such

Sure wish they'd change that dang law.

I'm not from VA, so I don't care if a VAST sees this.

I have the Escort 9500ci radar detector that is a fully installed detector. The front sensors are mounted to the front bumper and the rear sensor mounts on the plate. The controller is mounted in the drivers side foot well and the GPS sensor/display is mounted between my 3 pillar dash gauges for a clean, inconspicuous install. A trooper would have to know the GPS is going to my Radar Detector and not my HU which is not something he can prove in a traffic stop.

I'm not saying it is completely the way to prevent anything, just that there are ways around the VA laws.

You can run a radar detector in VA so long as you use one that is Spectre-proof and is installed in a stealth manner. Hidden sensors, display, etc. And you need some sort of kill switch that you can easily access but isn't easily seen.

Then when the next gen Spectre comes out you've got to upgrade.

Reading the law, it seems that a radar detector detector detector (detector that detects radar detector detectors) wouldn't be illegal. Maybe not that useful, but it might be interesting to have such a device if it existed.

My buddy would have his window tint on the front windshield (upper portion, not the entire windshield), and radar dector behind that, which from the outside looking in, its pretty hard to see.

If "my friend" was trying to hide a radar/laser detector behind a tinted section of his wind shield I would warn him that VA State troopers like using laser over radar (from what I've heard). Tinting can reduce a detectors ability to detect laser by 50%-60% and as bad as 80% (according to Valentine). Just something to think about.
