I can answer this for Khoi, YES!! Alcohol removes fingerprints, grease and dirt.. I have some, but not a lot.

Good job fellas getting everything organized! I do have the tools to do this install but not 8 sets of tools, soo everyone should bring the following:

A butter knife (to pry the head lights open)
Rubbing Alcohol
Flat head screw driver
10mm socket and ratchet

We will need painters tape, I'd say 2 to 3 rolls of it, and newspaper to cover parts and pieces so theres no overspray.

A heat gun, someone PLEASE bring a Heat gun!!!

I have almost a full bottle of alcohol. As a nerd who is always ripping apart his PC products removing TIM constantly I always have a fresh supply on hand (=

i agree with this whole statement. I always believed that being half the fun in being a car enthusiast was actually getting your hands dirty! these install meets are always fun but what i've noticed in the last few years is that these install meets = 2-3 people working on the cars, the other 10+ people sit on their butts, eat, drink lol

As to this I am probably going to be the minority. Im pretty noobish. Ive never owned a car I was interested in until I bought the Z. I also never took interest from any of my family members. I am always up for learning I just need someone to instruct me. I wish we could get some more instructional meets to where the seasoned vet's can show us noobies what to do.

eastwest2300 08-10-2012 12:25 PM

I love working on the Z, and the S2000, I'll show you a thing or two, dude Im gonna knock out these cars in BEAST mode... watch me! The Z is an amazing machine, its a whole nother animal when you take the undershroud off, its beautiful. Its truly a piece of art.

Sales@AAMComp 08-10-2012 12:58 PM

the outside of the lens can be cleaned with pretty much anything, don't worry about getting adhesive on it, simple plastix or any kind of paint cleaner will take care of that. I think we used bug and tar remover on mine lol

The inside is another story. assuming it's clean already I would just leave it inside the house or somewhere it will not be affected by dust or debris. Cleaning the inside of the lens sounds smart but the smarter route is not to clean it at all if it doesn't need cleaning! Why clean something when it's not dirty haha I say this becuase a lot of time, doesn't matter what you use, it will leave smudge marks, you might not see it but I can assure you once everything is back on, you probably have missed a spot and now it's too late to undo it!

btw Khoi you've done this before. Would it be be a good idea to have isopropyl alchohol, preferable in a spray bottle, with some cheese cloth/rags so the inside of the lenses are clean right before spraying them? Newspaper to lay the lights on?

the lens itself if you happen to get finger prints on it (oil) while maybe masking some of it off, or whatever it might be, you can clean it with windex, that's what we did. More or less you want to get the oils from your fingerprint off, your lens should already be clean.

maybe everyone wear rubber gloves?? lol fingerprint issue solved

b1adesofcha0s 08-10-2012 01:05 PM

Not everyone needs to bring their own socket and wrench. I think one or two will be enough :p

falconfixer 08-10-2012 01:11 PM

So who's manning up and bringing the hookers and blow?

BlackZ85 08-10-2012 04:11 PM

damn, i might not be able to do this, i have work at 3pm, i don't wanna be a douche bag getting my headlight done and then leave without staying to help for the rest of the day.

dmhenderson 08-10-2012 04:16 PM

You don't have to stay for the whole thing. 8 people can't work on 2 cars. As long as you pitch in before you have to go, it's fine.

dmhenderson 08-10-2012 04:17 PM

I can *probably* borrow a heat gun from our service lab at work. The service manager is a short timer anyway so he will likely let me borrow one.

We need to set a date for this though!

dmhenderson 08-10-2012 04:31 PM

Saturday september 15th?

Please if you can get one, that would be awesome.

eastwest2300 08-10-2012 04:34 PM

That'd work for me, as far as date, what about the others?

I borrowed one for my front emblem de-badge on my '09. Those things are serious business. I ended up with a tiny bit of paint damage because holy **** those things get hot.

Settle on a date and I'll ask work if I can borrow it. If it gets broken, ya'll are chipping in to replace though (I have no idea what they cost).

BlackZ85 08-10-2012 05:11 PM

Kool, let me know the date, I could go buy 2 or 3 heat guns

eastwest2300 08-10-2012 05:12 PM

Yeah heat guns, they do get pretty hott, please bring it, and if it happens to break, I'll chip in for it to be replaced.

BlackZ85 08-10-2012 05:17 PM

Not a expert with heat guns, but I see prices from 20 bucks to 150 bucks for a heat gun, I don't know what to get

eastwest2300 08-10-2012 05:31 PM

Look on eBay, but anything that gets hot to the touch, warm does you no good, its gotta be hot.

BlackZ85 08-10-2012 05:34 PM

Could u find one and send me the link, I'll buy it from there

MyKindaGuise 08-10-2012 05:35 PM

I saw september 15th. That should work for me. The last weekend in September is H2O so as long as were done before then were all good on my end

eastwest2300 08-10-2012 05:47 PM

Dewalt heat gun, copy and paste this link..

DeWalt D26950 Industrial Construction Heavy Duty Heat Gun | eBay

eastwest2300 08-10-2012 05:48 PM

This is perfect, and the auction ends in about 18 hours.

tonybui 08-10-2012 06:06 PM

I'll bring water and ice. Anyone drink beers? What brands? I'll bring a case

September 15th sounds good to me. Anyone else interested in painting their wheels? We could do another event for wheel painting since I'm gonna do mines soon. Just bought the paint today

eastwest2300 08-10-2012 06:21 PM

Corona!!!!

Already done! Haha

I'm gonna do my bumper while I'm down there tho:tup:

b1adesofcha0s 08-10-2012 06:34 PM

I was thinking about doing my wheels while I'm there, but it might take up too much time. Also, I'd need my car to be on jack stands and we won't be able to move it. If that's ok with you guys, then I can do it there so others can learn how it's done. Otherwise, I can just do it on my own and it's not a big deal.

ERZperformance 08-10-2012 06:45 PM

I did this on my Supra TT long time ago I was able to get it done in one day.

eastwest2300 08-10-2012 06:49 PM

Blades, I'd say, why dont we have all hands on deck to get this job done and once this job is done, and if there is time, we can do other things..

Sales@AAMComp 08-10-2012 07:41 PM

yeah in all honesty I have a feeling 8 cars will not get done.. but it's worth a shot!

Yeah that's not gonna happen. :icon17:

I'm also starting to doubt we can do 8 cars.

Sales@AAMComp 08-10-2012 08:40 PM

realistically, not to shoot down the idea but I would suggest attempting 4 sets, while everyone still comes and participates, this way the second meet we have a better judgement of time allocation, and everyone will have some experience in doing this. Maybe we will only finish 2 cars who knows but it's better that than to rush to get 8 cars finished lol

eastwest2300 08-10-2012 09:23 PM

I dont know man, I think we can get over 4 done. I wouldnt see why we wouldnt be able to with several hands. But if yall wanna do just 4, thats what we'll go with.

I really hope we can. If not, we'll need a 2nd day because it's not fair to the folks who don't get done on day 1.

I'm gonna get there at 8. That way we can knock the first 2(?) out early if someone else shows up. Give us a fighting chance at least.

dmhenderson 08-10-2012 10:12 PM

Let's just see how it goes? Let's all just agree that no matter what, we'll make sure everyone's car gets done even if we have to break it into multiple sessions, ok?

Edit: Also, please edit 9/15 into the OP announcement.

I agree with that bro, hell if we have to, we'll do 4 on saturday, and 4 on sunday.

b1adesofcha0s 08-10-2012 10:26 PM

I say we start aiming for 4 sets at first. After a while we should get an idea of whether or not we can do all 8. If we can't, we will set up a 2nd date. Out of fairness I think we should do the cars of the people coming from furthest away. It would not be fair to make them come all the way back a 2nd day. Dee we can do yours too since you're hosting.

I think thats fair, the farthest away will get theres done first, Im ok with doing the second set on Sunday.. I just dont want nobody to get screwed. I really think once we do one car, we'll have the hang of it, and it will go smooth from there.
