Khoi and the Nissan mechanic will be the ones guiding this process along, I think we should get an idea of the teams we're gonna be working with, whos going

I can assure you two sets of hands will be needed to easily pull the headlights apart. 1 person literally pulling it apart, other person prying at a corner with a couple flat head, once there's leverage the thing comes apart like an oreo

I can assist with this, masking, painting, headlight assembling. which should be the bulk of the difficult parts

Seems like most of the time will be spent pulling the lights apart. I can help take the bumpers off since I've done it before.

So that right there is a 3 man team.. The Nissan mechanic can guide the process of removing and reinstalling the bumper... the head lights, we can use tape & a sharpee to mark whos headlights are whos and the color of paint wanted to be applied.

We will have to buy new silicone sealant, correct?

I read Caravan's DIY and it said you can reuse the old sealant by heating it up first and then sealing the lens. He did add some new silicone around the outside for added protection. We should try and get silicone sealant that isn't permanent....

yes this is what I do with all of the lights I open up WITH THE ADDITION of 1 bead of silicone after the fact.

So when you're ready to put it back together, press it back as best as possible. throw it in the oven for about 10 minutes to reactivate the old sealant, and you'll be surprise how tight you can get it back together. let it cool off, add a bead of clear silicone for insurance and you're set!

this is almost a full proof system, essentially you'll have double the amount of sealant now

The biggest fear with doing this is the potential condensation that could occur, Im personally not gonna chance it, I'd much rather remove the old sealant and reapply new sealant, thats just me though.

I consider this a one shot deal, and I wanna do it right, I dont wanna have to go back and fix something, you know.

Removing the old sealant will add time to the install.....but if you want to do it then it's fine. Make sure to get something that isn't permanent so that if anyone ever has to open it back up, they can.

i did this modification on my g37 before, its not something hard but rather time consuming. i used the heat gun method to open up a corner of headlight and used thin metal part to keep them from closing while i worked on opening them. i dont believe you can do 5-6 cars in a day, i say 2-3 cars when you work fast. im sure the oven method can be faster than heatgun. but that is just an estimate of time by parting out the lens, and preparing them for paint, drying(i guess you can use the fast healing paint. 1 thin coat every 15min of drying time), sealing back up.

anyway, good luck with this modification. i will be doing my z headlight in chrome black this time around.

this was my car headlight @ first attempt
