Oil Cooler Questions

That's why the 2012 models come with a baby oil cooler. Personally, I have seen temps as high as 255 degrees this past summer when I ran the car hard.

Personally, I have seen temps as high as 255 degrees this past summer when I ran the car hard. Limp mode starts at around 280 degrees I believe.

Any prolonged spirited driving (like our mid-A cruises) can get our temps up really quick. I know Shahid was telling me he almost hit limp mode on one of the cruises.

For the most part though, you are right. For daily driving around town and a few quick acceleration bursts won't warrant an oil cooler. I plan to autocross and do some HPDE's this year so I want to invest in a small oil cooler so I can have some fun on the track.

The price for the Z1 oil cooler is actually pretty good. I have a 19 row oil cooler and it works great. I never worry about oil temps anymore. I have had not any problems since it was installed. I have the thermostatic plate and yes you'll want to have something to block at least half of it. As Steve mentioned earlier, you can use just about anything, cardboard works or you can fashion something more permanent as I've seen some pretty nifty ones made with a bit of sheet metal and velcro of all things.

That was only on one of the cruises though, the rest I was fine. A couple minutes in a higher gear took care of that problem though.

You don't drive it enough or hard enough for it to even come close to being an issue

"limp mode" It's what happens when you own two striker fired plastic guns at the same time...
