Hey steve, I like my heated seats soo much, I may do them in the Z, even though I definitely dont wanna do another set cuz it sucks soo much, I might just do it, I gave it some serious thought tonight.

dmhenderson 02-10-2013 07:50 PM

Trust me - don't do it with fabric seats.

m4a1mustang 02-10-2013 07:53 PM

It's been done before, but it might get too hot. You'll have to look into it more, but I know in my research I saw a lot of people doing it with cloth seats.

dmhenderson 02-10-2013 07:55 PM

The problem is that the heat doesn't spread out like it does with leather. It's like putting a stove burner under your ***.

m4a1mustang 02-10-2013 07:56 PM

Oh Dee, you'll love this... I'm about to break out my seamstress seamster skills and make a headliner myself. I'm going to try my best to make it so that it will be able to go up and down with the top. If not, it will be a quick install/uninstall design.

eastwest2300 02-10-2013 07:56 PM

Yeah my only experience with this upholstery game has been with leather, I have yet to toil with clothe, as I was thinking about it while I was driving my Z today, it looks like the entire materials gotta come off the seat.. wow.. it'll be a job to do, thats if I actually do it.

Truth. It would probably make "high" way too damn hot.

ahhhhh sh1t, hmmm. You'll have me on this one, I have zero experience messing with headliners.

Suede, right?

dmhenderson 02-10-2013 07:58 PM

Yeah no thanks. Unless I could get the AC/heater combo seats, I'd never do it. That said, I really wish I did have leather heated seats right about now. Come July, probably not so much.

Hmmm, I'll think of something, I can buy pieces of leather and cover the sensors underneath the clothe to disperse some of the heat.

dmhenderson 02-10-2013 07:59 PM

Those ventilated leather AC seats are the bomb. I think my friend has them in his G37 but I'm not 100% on that.

You have leather seats - you're fine. Heat transfers just fine across leather seats.

Fixed roof headliners are easy. For a convertible? Let's just say it's going to be a PITA.

Yep, black suede with 1/8" foam backing. I also have some 1/4" sewing foam and some 1/8" closed cell foam. I should be able to get some decent insulation/sound deadening properties out of it.

dmhenderson 02-10-2013 08:02 PM

I want a sunroof. Who was the guy here who got one?

jpit.

The trouble with the sunroof is it KILLS the shape of the roof. The Z has a real nice roof spine that gets flattened with the sunroof and looks like ***.

Dude its gonna be crazy BUT it can be done, do it in sections, to how the top comes down, thats what I would do, dont do it in one big piece.

Yeah, I agree with that, its not a flat roof, which kinda fvcks everything up.

The Auco headliner (no longer available) is one big piece. I am pretty sure I can do it this way.

The trouble is going to be improvising the mounting mechanisms. I have a few different things to try.

eastwest2300 02-10-2013 08:07 PM

hmmmmmm

eastwest2300 02-10-2013 08:08 PM

That material must be made to flex, I would just think its easier doing it in sections but then again, I've never really looked at doing this project so I'd have to look at the inside and give it some thought.

i remember feeling kinda the same way but I think I need to see it again to reassure myself.

eastwest2300 02-10-2013 08:09 PM

Yeah its definitely NOT flat.

m4a1mustang 02-10-2013 08:10 PM

http://www.the370z.com/attachments/e...stalled-w1.jpg

And of course its the type that opens to the outside so it looks like the car has its hat on backwards

http://www.the370z.com/attachments/e...stalled-w9.jpg

dmhenderson 02-10-2013 08:10 PM

(it really sounds like it'd be awesome during every season except right now)

dmhenderson 02-10-2013 08:11 PM

**** I really wish that looked better. It really does look pretty terrible. Don't think I'm going to offend anyone because I'm pretty sure he sold that car.

m4a1mustang 02-10-2013 08:11 PM

Now what WOULD be cool is if you could get someone to cut out a section of the roof and have a glass shop replicate it and run a glass roof like you can get on the Mustangs. Always wanted one... so badass

( Click to show/hide )

dmhenderson 02-10-2013 08:13 PM

That would cost thousands fo sho.

b1adesofcha0s 02-10-2013 08:16 PM

Why not try to buy some touring seats Dee?

eastwest2300 02-10-2013 08:30 PM

I've seen a sunroof kit that looked better than that. Is there a few applications out there?

I love mine. That is the reason I'm glad I got the touring pkg over the sport.

That's the only one I've seen. The guy at Moore Auto said they do sunroofs. I think I'll ask him and see what he says.
