Hey, it's his build, he can do what he wants - I'm just trying to figure out if he's making a race car or a show car.

Like I said, show car, this all makes sense.

eastwest2300 01-09-2013 10:46 AM

Whatever he decides to do with it, I think its gonna come out pretty nice.

Agreed on the pre-det, it does run cooler, for sure. However, it takes about 30% MORE fuel to make the same power. Also, far more difficult to acquire reliably. E85 is usually reserved for cars running 600+ WHP heh.

Worse, your problem wont be pre-det I don't think (barring a shitty tune) - it's going to be the VVEL tuning issues preventing you from making power. Furthermore, what are you doing to beef up the driveline to handle all of this? Or is it really not going to be raced? And what is your final power goal before/after your rebuild? If you arent going north of 500 (and I think that heat soak issue with the top-mount may truly cause you problems), I don't see the need for E85 personally, but that is me.

If you're mainly going for show-car, this all makes a little more sense lol.

In response to the comment expressing worriment: Guys dont worry about his questions.lol I like stuff that makes me question my own builds. Its the best ways of improving upon what you know. I dont know everything so I welcome others ideas  There are also 15 E85 stations within a 30 mile radius of me.

I know that fuel consumption will be 20-30% depending on tune but its also $.75-1 cheaper per gallon than premium here in my area. Im not too worried about VVEL as it has just been cracked and hopefully in a year or more support for it will be better. There are a handful of 600+whp Z's and G's now so they found a way to be able to do it. Honestly I havent gotten to far with anything regarding 500-550+whp as thats so far off for me so some of this I cant even answer haha. Final goal is 700whp but thats a while away. If im doing that im doing a whole new tranny and everything with sequential gearbox which most of that will come from qualife. But if im going 550+ I wont be going top mount. Im doing E85 just because I can.lol There is barely any diversity out there with this platform and I absolutely dislike that fact so im trying to be unique and just get some builds out there. In terms of heat the guys with the S&R top mounts are doing just fine btw. And I dont believe any have vented hoods....

Anyways this wil be mostly a show car and will be tracked once in a while but will only be tracked in spurts until enough testing is done to make sure everything is stable and reliable...within reason lol it is tracking after all. To accomdate that I will be doing new csc, clutch, flywheel, bigger brakes, more cooling, a bunch of other mods.

I think thats everything Im at work and there was a lot to respond to if anything doesnt make sense or was skipped...you have my apologies :tiphat:

Can't have a race car and expect it to be clean. Furthermore, if I (or anyone else who respects a well done car) saw a well done race car, I wouldn't give a **** how pretty it is.

Race cars and show cars are almost two different interests completely. You can have a clean race car that can do both, but that doesn't mean you need to do mods that are counterproductive to how WELL the car races. A top mount turbo would likely do just that, in my opinion.

Thank you, that was all I was going for (another perspective, maybe seeing something you didn't in your plans).

Nice on the gas stations, but do you know if they ever change their mix of ethanol throughout the year?

Sounds like you've got a solid plan, especially at post-550 horsepower levels...look forward to seeing it! Sequential tranny is serious money, btw...you auto or stick right now?

Cody's Z is pretty fast with just his mods now, I cant imagine how nasty it'll be with a custom built turbo. I'll do the 120 miles to your house to experience the rush... hahaha

Thank you. I enjoy these more indepth forum talks like I said above.

Honestly Most of these stations are "Sheetz" and they have all been rebuilt within the past year so I am not to sure on their practices yet as they are all new. I expect this trend to follow and more gas stations will be being rebuilt with an E85 pump. I use an Android app called "Flex-Fuel" and it lists all stations via google maps.

Ive been puttingtogether this plan over the past few months and really loooking into everything alot and I have a great friend who knows an incredible ammount more than I do who has been able to guide me. I think the most exciting thing with this build is that the HC1 turbos LOVE high pressure airflow so it is going to allow us to utilize really small manifold piping up to the turbo which cuts down on cost, less thick piping also means more room for airflow, and give us more room to work and do crazy piping layouts.

And Im 6MT with synchrorev. And yes Seq GBs are expensive as a mother haha. Like 9.5k for gearbox and transmission. Its been a while since I looked but I beleive thats what it was haha.

MyKindaGuise 01-09-2013 12:12 PM

Also Paul if youre still lurking looks Like Gixxer may want to drive down with us as well. Looks like we got ourselves a road trip!

b1adesofcha0s 01-09-2013 12:12 PM

Should be a nice turnout for this meet. I might just wash my car for it :icon17:
