^haha....the electrical gremlins.... It felt like every weekend I was messing with something electrical on my beemers (00s). Newer ones have been great though. Maybe they got it, finally.....

The newer beamers havent had that many issues, but then again, back in 01 when the E46 M3 first came out, they didnt have any issues with them until about 3 years later when people started putting on some miles and rod bearings started going....then vanos issues .

Makes me so happy I bought a car that doesnt have any of these issuese..... yet

edit: dont get me started on my 06 MB clk500......it made the M3 look like a honda civic
We have an '03 CLK 500 so I know EXACTLY what you are talking about.

One thing with the Z... diff fluid changes every 30k are a good idea. Same with the transmission.

If you drive hard, sure. But regular use 30k with a good diff fluid is not a bad idea. I'd get the factory fill out sooner.

I was driving in SOUTHEAST DC, had no clue where I was, it was 2 in the morning, half asleep, I was relying on it and the nav just cut out on me. Just turned off. When I drove around for an hour and got out onto 66, it magically came back on.

I was so mad I traded it in on a Honda Pilot 10 hours later.

At least the car didn't shut down in Southeast.

I guess to be fair I probably never actually got a decent diff, but the black stone results I've seen point to 15-20k changes. Guess some of it depends on fluid choice too.

But that first change I would do ASAP. Factory fill is garbage.

I have 280 miles on my Z, after putting down 4 grand on it, I think ima wait before switching out the fluids as Im broke. I need to find a reliable Japanese shop. Owning nothing but german performance cars as my toys, my shop probably wont touch it.

No, it just shut down on 66 in traffic. EVERYTHING shut off. Almost like an EMP pulse hit it. I couldnt even put the car into neutral to push it off the road. (I had it in park cause traffic wasnt moving) So after waiting 20 minutes after calling AAA, guess what? Everything just turned back on.......

Almost sounds like the crank sensor. It goes bad a lot and the car will just shut down and die. Sometimes you can restart it sometimes you can't.

Of course it's a $50 part but it has to be programmed with STAR diagnostics and the labor is $700.

This is why I'll never buy a German car.

I buy cars for the long term.

They can be annoying.

Things like proprietary $250 batteries are annoying.

If I were to buy a german car I would only own it for the warranty period and there would have to be a maintenance plan included in the purchase.

If we get a Z4 coupe or TT coupe it has to be CPO.
