Need some gun shop recommendations in the NOVA area...

You can go look at them anywhere. Probably worth buying from budsgunshop.com.

If you want to buy local, Guns and Ammo and Virginia Arms are pretty decent, and have always been helpful when I've been in.

Not ready to get anything just yet, but I do need to pick up a cleaning kit and some other stuff for my 70 Series.

BTW, I checked out the XD Subcompact at the Gun Show on Saturday and I have no idea how that's a "Sub Compact." Still pretty bulky. I liked the Kahr CW9, P9, and PM9 as carry options.

BTW thanks for the link... they have some nice pricing!

Eh, I agree that it's big for an SC, but it actually conceals pretty well. If you pick up the right holster (Kholster or Crossbreed) it's comfy and pretty much unnoticeable.

I'll have to go handle one at a gun shop to really get a better feel for it.

The thing that makes me more comfortable with that gun than the Kahr is the grip safety. Kind of silly but it's a personal thing.

But the ergonmics of the Kahr are great.

The grip safety is great for peace of mind, but arguable unnecessary if you are careful. I still like to have it.

The Kahr is a good gun from what I've heard, probably worth renting one to see if you like shooting it.

Which track did you run your Z at? 13.3 aint too shabby!

Cecil County Dragway, did it in the heat of the summer too. If I remember correctly even at 8pm that night it was still in the lower 90s.

Blades - I haven't been back since the mods, I'm waiting till I get something on the intake front, looking at possibly motordyne's intake manifold and/or a CAI. Would be nice if AAM would make me a CAI like they said they would months ago but I think I'm done waiting on them. So much for supporting your local buisnesses...Anyway once I have some intake mods and then get a tune I'll be looking to go back to the track. I really ought to do an oil cooler as well so I can then start thinking about doing some HPDE events down at Summit Point, that sounds like a blast.

I'm planning on HFC this summer and Stillen Gen 3 around this time next year. Good luck with AAM or whatever you decide to go with.

FYI, I see that NASA has their 2011 track schedule out so if anyone is thinking of tracking you can check them out. You do have to have a membership with them to be able to register for Hyperdrives and HPDEs of which those are extra. The Hyperdrive I participated in was I think fifty bucks for a 25 minute session, classroom included. The Hyperdrive instruction is between 300-400 dollars if I remember.

I was thinking about hitting one of those. I almost went to the event at VIR this weekend...

For something like the hyperdrive, can you get away without an oil cooler? I'm trying to avoid installing one until I'm sure I'm not going to run into oil consumption issues and not have it covered.

m4a1mustang 02-14-2011 12:57 PM

I might be down for a Hyperdrive this year. I don't feel like spending the money on a full track weekend this year.

In my opinion you want to have the oil cooler before you go to the track. You don't necessarily HAVE to have one if you are going to do just a 25 minute Hyperdrive but others who went at various tracks without the oil cooler suffered "limp mode" due to high oil temps after a few laps. I made a point to have mine installed before and I never had to think twice. Just as important would be to have upgraded brake pads, brake fluid, and clutch fluid. The stock pads will work for a few laps but then fade and you definitely don't want your brakes fading or icing at VIR or Summit Point. With those items addressed, you are more than ready for a Hyperdrive event and/or HPDE.
