To confirm what some of the guys told me yesterday, it costs around $15 to get in (for drag strip) on a non-event day and you can go as many times as you'd like. Also they check your car to determine whether or not you will need a helmet. Would a stock 370Z require a helmet? What about one with full bolt-ons? Do you have to bring your own helmet if you are required to wear one?

I've never been to a track or drag strip, but I'm really excited to go for my first time. If any of you have been following the UK Top Gear, they came to the MD/VA area for one of their newer episodes. They went to Capital Raceway in MD for a race between a Ferrari 458 and Mercedes SLS, it was pretty cool.

last year when i went to MIR they said i didn't require a helmet, after a few passes they made me rent one... and i think it was like 10 or 20$ to rent.

I think you have to break the 14s for a helmet and 10s is a full roll cage.

Yep, definitely. No burnouts, crazzy revving, or any of that stuff in the parking lots. We're better than that.

You can drive however you want to/from but be safe. And when we do our cruises our primary focus is on doing it safely...

Sorry to be a buzzkill but that's just how we roll, have rolled, and will continue to roll. :)

Don't you drive a mustang or something?:stirthepot:

Anyone know when Capitol Raceway will be open for test & tune? I checked the website, but it only shows last years schedule.

m4a1mustang 02-13-2011 01:53 PM

Tracks will usually open up in March.

I, for one, refuse to go to a regular test and tune because 1) they are too crowded and 2) you have to deal with too many idiot ricers. The crowd I go with is great and well worth the $100.

At a busy test and tune at MIR you will be lucky if you get 4 runs in 4 hours. At one of my events there is zero delay and you could literally make a hundred passes if you wanted.

Yep. 13.99 or quicker requires a helmet at just about every 1/4 mile in the US.

If you want a cheap helmet take a look at Pyrotect. They are made by Bell and you can get a new one for around $250. Good quality too.

It is worth it if you have the money. I would rather pay like $40 for entry and helmet rental and stay there for a couple of hours. Besides, when you're with a group of friends, time just flies. I was at the meet on Saturday for a good 5 hrs and didn't even realize that it had been that long.

m4a1mustang 02-13-2011 03:15 PM

Well one day you'll have to come out to one of the track rentals so you can experience the difference :)

b1adesofcha0s 02-13-2011 03:29 PM

Definitely man. I won't know how good it is until I experience the crowded days. For right now though, I just want to do it for fun and the experience. I'm also trying to save up for some mods so I will have to settle for the crowded days for the greater good of my Z, lol. Once I'm done with school and start working full time (only doing part-time right now) things should be different. I am excited either way. I'm still trying to test the limits of my car and find out what it can do. Is there any place around here where I could safely do a top speed run or something? Watching Top Gear gets me really excited about my car and brings out the inner Stig in me ;)

m4a1mustang 02-13-2011 03:53 PM

There is nothing quite like seeing what you and your car can do on the track.

Yep. Whodathunk it that my Max could break into the 13's :bowrofl:

The private track days at MIR are definitely worth the $100 bucks. I think I got in almost 30 passes last October and that's with plenty of cool down cycles after 3-4 trips down the track. Great group of folks that come to those meets too.
