Steve I just picked up a Rock River Tactical Operator 2 AR-15, where can I get some 5.56 ammo, everywhere's expensive.

Very nice indeed.

Online is usually the best bet. Check out sgammo.com, they usually have some deals. Also, you should search for the "Anyone into firearms?" thread!

Fix'd!

I'm buying my AR this Christmas. I might go the RRA route as well. So many choices!

I jumped on that deal, $1000, pick one of the 3, free case, 2 mags, and pick your rear site. Im not sure when that deal will expire, but I love the one I got, its sick.

eastwest2300 09-10-2011 07:24 PM

Steve thanks for that website, I will check it out as well, I've been on gunbroker.com too, its kinda like eBay.

b1adesofcha0s 09-10-2011 07:27 PM

Hey Steve I think we decided to go shooting at the MD meet after the next one (4 weeks). Your 5.redneckgunlovingazz better be there.

m4a1mustang 09-10-2011 07:30 PM

It would be nice if MD would let me bring my guns across state lines to head to the range with you guys, but that's not allowed, so I'd have to rent or borrow.

b1adesofcha0s 09-10-2011 07:35 PM

I think some ppl in the MD crew will have some guns you'll like. No more excuses!

Is it steel cased? If so, I'd stay away from it.

Damn steve. It is steel cased, f-me man..why stay away from it?

m4a1mustang 09-10-2011 08:17 PM

Just a caution... I probably wouldn't buy any one ammo in bulk right off the bat. I'd buy a smaller amount of a variety of different types for testing... see what your gun likes best then stock up.

:iagree: I would not touch any steel cased/cheap ammo (Wolf/TulAmmo)... Heard way too may horror stories.

Personally I use "Federal - American Eagle" for both my Rifle and my Sig Sauer P226 handgun.

Cheaper steel/aluminum cased ammo tend not to feed as reliability as brass. And most of the steel case ammo is manufactured in Russia or China, which means they are reserved for AKs. :icon17:

How will I know what my weapon's gonna like or not?

Federal is good stuff. I stock up on their Champion series that is available at Wally World for my 9mm handguns.

Blockages, casing braking in chamber/barrel.. and I've heard they have a laquer that comes off and builds up in rifle.

I've heard Wolf or TulAmmo is great for an AK47, but I'd never run it through an AR.. Certainly not one that cost over $2k LOL

Well, you don't until you try. :icon17:

I'd just go to cheaperthandirt.com for now and sort the 5.56 target ammo by price. Read reviews and order a few boxes of a few different brands that get good feedback and give it a shot.

Also keep in mind the weight of your bullets and the twist of your barrel... I believe some of the more aggressive twists don't like the heavier bullets, but I'm no expert on rifles. You'd have to ask Darren.

eastwest2300 09-10-2011 08:21 PM

It seems as if you save money when you buy in bulk, I'd just like to buy 500 rounds and not have to buy any for a while.

Well I buy in bulk, but only after I've verified that the ammo works well in my application.
