Actually I've been thinking about working for Exxon after I graduate. They pay really well, but from what I here they like to send all their engineers to Texas for like 1-2 years. I would prefer to stay in VA. Trying to figure out whether it would be worth it. My parents really don't want me to leave for that long, but it might be worth it in the end.

My brother-in-law has been working for Exxon since finishing college at Purdue University. Younger Chemical Engineers at Exxon are typically sent on 2+ years assignments all over the world until they are more senior in the company. He's 6 years older than me, has a BS, makes $250K/year and gets stipend on top of his salary while on assignment. House paid for and just bought another one. I'm following his tracks as far as getting my house paid for while younger.

A couple of cousins are going through the Chemical Engineering program at Colorado School of Mines and one has already been offered internships paying 30-40K over the summer.

So as summary, you picked the right field for $$$, you just have to get used to being sent on projects all over ;)

b1adesofcha0s 06-21-2011 07:35 PM

That sounds awesome! Just hoping to be able to stay at the VA location. Not really wanting to move around a lot because I will be living with my family. I can't just have everyone moving around every time I get a new assignment. If it's just for like 1-2 years in the beginning and then I stay in VA it will be fine for me. I want to get in touch with some people there and see what my options are. Would you mind giving him my e-mail address or something?

I applied for the summer internship for Exxon, but didn't get it :(

birdmanx1 06-21-2011 07:39 PM

If you want to progress through the corporate ladder, then you will be expected to move around every 2 years till at least your (future) kids go through high school. That's how it works there. He just left VA for New Orleans for 2 years and was in California for 2 years prior to that.

b1adesofcha0s 06-21-2011 07:41 PM

That's ghey. Don't really want to do that, but I would like to work for Exxon.

birdmanx1 06-21-2011 07:45 PM

LOL That's how they roll there. I have to roll, I will ping you later my friend ;)

b1adesofcha0s 06-21-2011 08:31 PM

Later bro :hello:

:icon17: In that case, I'm curious to see what the combo of you wearing Al's hat with your rocker hair would be. Ladies would be mesmerized, that's for sure

Sat Cookout?

Greetings All -- just wanted to follow-up from an earlier post -- checking to see if there is any interest in a post Sat (25 June) meet cookout/ZDayZ video review tomorrow?

Not sure how many folks are avail, if not tomorrow, maybe sometime later in the Summer (probably Aug as my July is pretty much consumed with business travel) -- anyway, let me know -- nothing formal, just some burgers, chips, & bier at the house.

m4a1mustang 06-24-2011 08:44 AM

I may or may not be in FFX tomorrow. If I show up it will only be for coffee, since I've got to head out of town later in the day.

I'm up for hanging out after the meet tomorrow. Not sure how many are going to show up yet... been quiet around here lately.

I wanted to hit the meet this weekend and would have jumped on the BBQ but I am stuck playing nursemaid to my six month Boston Terrier who just lost his manhood.

:bowrofl: Boston Terriers are insane... my cousin has one and that dog is always hyper as hell!

shadoquad 06-24-2011 09:37 AM

I won't be in VA tomorrow. I'm driving to western md (ish).

RandyD 06-24-2011 10:17 AM

i'll be in Florida... hope to make another one soon.

4r3s 06-24-2011 10:33 AM

I'm going to hit up the MDztuners meet in hunt valley tomorrow, fairfax is just too much of a pain to do unless I'm going to be visiting my brother as well and hes out of town.

Kirkster 06-24-2011 11:29 AM

I also plan on being at the mdZtuners meet...

Just put my gauges in temporarily. And I mean temporarily as I am not real thrilled about where it is but I had to get the real AFR on the car so Sam can finish his tune.

Some can be crazy depending on the breeding line, like a lot of breeds. He has plenty of energy but also like to chill out, even for a six month old.

Pat and I can go if you decide to do it tomorrow. If not, we'll still see you at coffee.

jayl 06-24-2011 03:25 PM

Jon: will you have your z?

Sscottfitz 06-24-2011 04:48 PM

Sounds like folks got some other stuff going on -- no problem, will try to do something in Aug -- will see ya'll at the meet and if a few still wanna do an impromptu get together that will work too.

Sounds like the weather is supposed to be a little less hot/humid tomorrow.

Lookin forward to seeing the group -- hard to believe it's been a month since ZDayZ...

Unfortunately no. I won't have it back until next Tuesday. The body work is all done but the clear bra was to be replaced on the front bumper under warranty and the installer couldn't get to it today, so next Tuesday. In time for the next meet though.

I know what you mean. Seems like ZDayZ was just yesterday and now a month has already passed! ZCON is next month, then Z Nationals in September.

See ya'll there tomorrow. At least SOME of us will be there :stirthepot:

b1adesofcha0s 06-24-2011 10:17 PM

My exhaust should be arriving at Steve's house on Monday. Now I just need to find a time where he's not busy so we can do the install :icon17:

m4a1mustang 06-25-2011 09:54 AM

Sorry I couldn't make it, guys. I probably won't see you all until the BBQ.

ZCarMan 06-25-2011 02:38 PM

It was good to see those who made it to the FF meet today. Next week is 4th of July holiday so I'm curious to see who will be in town on the 2nd and up to meeting on that Saturday in Columbia.

b1adesofcha0s 06-25-2011 02:50 PM

I will be in NY that weekend, so I won't be able to make it.

birdmanx1 06-25-2011 03:07 PM

I ll be in Montreal and Toronto then. I won't make it to the next MD meet.

So, I drove Chiana for 8 hours today, starting my day exploring the back roads around Frederick, MD, on the advice of a friend. Some were terrific, some were not really suitable for a motor vehicle (hello unpaved one-lane street with steep hills and deep shoulders). I also went up to Thurmont to check out Cunningham Falls Park and Catoctin Mtn Park. While scenic, those roads are really not as suitable for play. Thurmont was pretty and nice, though. Frederick was fantastic, though. Nice people, great roads, even found an import tuning shop with a bunch of RX-7's and Z's.

Anyway, from there, I cut my way across Taneytown and Hampstead to go to Pretty Boy, where I stopped for some quick photos by the Dam.

I stopped by the Ztuners meet for a minute to introduce myself, and then raised some hell at Loch Raven before heading home.

I've got to sit down and work it out. My buddy Huey gave me a route around Frederick. I have to rework it to exclude some of the less z-friendly roads, but I think I've got us a good route now.
