hey dmhenderson.. one of the guys in the club i'm in pointed me towards your build. I've got a 2011 touring/sport and will be installing the 1.5 kit myself. your thread has been very helpful, lol I'm trying to read everything i can before the kit gets here

how's the car running? any updated numbers?

dmhenderson 09-15-2013 12:02 PM

So I think I've figured out the deal with the rotor caps. I have H&R DRS spacers and I think the replacement studs might be slightly different than the stock studs (different thread) which is causing the problem. I may be able to get a shop to modify the caps to fit but I'm not sure if it's worthwhile. They'd look pretty damn hot though.

How is your car running?

dmhenderson 09-15-2013 12:20 PM

No more low end sputter. Very clean through the gears although the clutch is definitely starting to show stress. Still getting used to the stink cloud that follows the car everywhere but honestly, I kinda like it.

dmhenderson 09-15-2013 05:43 PM

Also turned off traction control because it's exhibiting very strange behavior especially when stressed.

Anyone know if there's a way to permanently disable the traction control without hitting the button every time I get into the car?

Baer383 09-15-2013 05:59 PM

There is a module you can get it is like 50 bucks I'm trying to find it for you.

dmhenderson 09-15-2013 06:11 PM

The GTM solution is like $2300 and there's no way I'm spending that for training wheels.

Edit: Oh you meant to disable. Yeah I would be interested.

Swapping to an 88mm pulley this week along with retuning to take advantage of the 5 maps I have available. Pretty stoked.

Finished my winter detail today. Almost time to put her away for the season :/

Nice man. I'm interested to see what kinda power the 88mm makes. How's the car doing?

dmhenderson 11-16-2013 11:49 PM

Car is tuned. We stopped it at 495.4whp. Frank (Hill's Garage) said it has another 20-30whp in it but doesn't want to mess with timing any further especially with cold weather coming up - add to that the fact that I asked him not to take it over 500whp.

Frank's exact quote was "she wants more but I don't want to give it to her".

Things we have learned from this build
:

-Pulley size is everything. You will get a max of 450-460whp on the 92mm pulley (very likely less than that). The 88mm pulley will take you up to 550whp depending on supporting mods.

-Cats (or lack thereof) do not matter or at least make *very* little difference. We have a guy in MAZOC who runs cats on a similar GTM kit for 20k miles and they haven't melted/fallen apart. I am not running cats and can easily make the same power without the added backpressure. This is a fact backed up by the opinion guy who is widely respected as an expert on these cars - and proven out during the tuning process. I apologize in advance if you don't agree with me but this has been my experience. Let's leave it at that.

-GTM can be challenging to deal with as a customer but the product is solid and the kit quality is good. Fitment issues are definitely a thing and if you have anything that isn't stock under the hood, you should probably check with Mike/Sam and your installer to see if you're going to have problems before you commit.

I am not interested in high score pissing contests or keeping my build secret. Hopefully this thread will be helpful in the future. Please feel free to PM me if you have questions.

I'd love to see a graph of the results. I'm curious to see how being catless affects low end compared to running cats.

I know with my build, running a cat, the 1.5's make a bit more under 4k rpm. It's not till over 5k rpm that my twin setup has an advantage.

How does it feel after the tune?
And yes I agree, it can be trying at times with GTM. Patience will be needed in spades.
