SS_Firehawk 10-19-2013 07:25 PM

Going to apologize ahead of time, I miss my car so I'm blabbling.

I appreciate all the kind words. Being in ATL is like punishment! I'm trying to schedule a dyno run next weekend. I did put a deposit on the CJM fuel starve kit. I don't need a retune do I? I also picked up my CS V2 fenders and they are back at home. Reminds me, I still have an EVO-R lip I need to put on!

I think before I do suspension mods, I want to replace the diff. I think that's the last major weak spot with the car. Cooling is good, brakes mildly upgraded, power is more than good, sway bars tightened things up, clutch, flywheel and CSC replaced, and of course, who can forget the awful stock exhaust... It's sitting in the garage with the Headers/cats right behind it.

Well, being in NV has it's benefits. Wife got my car smogged, passed with no issues, but the kid working it took a liking to my car apparently. She said the kids eyes got huge when she popped the hood and then he replied "This thing is beast mode, I know you be mashing". Why yes good sir, she is beast mode and I mash excessively.

Good to know that a heavily modded car like yours can still pass emissions. :tiphat:

So I decided to strap Sophia down for some dyno passes this weekend. I was curious why my gas mileage is hovering around 14.5mpg, not only that, but I haven't seen the dyno graphs with meth going. For reference, a bone stock 370Z made 224whp in 4th gear. It's an awd mustang dyno. That's about a 32.5% drivetrain loss. That's w/o WCF. Mine put down 322 and 348 with WCF. Problem is, the car is running at about 11.0 AFR... Pig rich. Not only that, at about 5800 rpm, power dips a couple times like timing is being pulled. Not only that but on a couple passes, after I through it in neutral, the motor died and struggled to fire back up. I tried swapping maps and do a pass w/o meth, but my dumb @Ss didn't know I had to physically turn the meth kit off with the gauge. lastly, the clutch pedal engagement kept getting lower to the floor and sticking a bit sometimes after a few hard runs or driving around.

GTM got back with me and they need more info that I can't get yet because I'm not at home and I didn't have my laptop to log when I went (failed again). I need to get them boost pressure on the dyno, I also need to verify which map is which so I'm in the right one (I have two maps. One tuned w meth, and one w/o). Sam also said the pedal issues are indicative of the clutch pressure plate not working very well and could explain the dips in the graph. I'm still waiting for an email back on why the car is running so rich as well as why the car died. Oil temps at the start of the runs are at 200, by the end, they hovered around 220. This dyno seems to put a heavy load on the car, more than street and wind at the same speed and gear.

Now don't take this as the car is running bad. The rides I gave, everyone was surprised the numbers were so low and the results didn't reflect what they perceived the car to be doing. The power doesn't drop off like the dyno shows, it just climbs, especially after 5k rpm. The car is dancing with traction through three gears. And boy does she sing on the dyno. Car just screams. As my goodbye, I screamed through the MCcarren airport tunnel through 4th gear. It gave me a boner. I <3 tunnels.

Will update with better video quality if I'm able to get the file...

Talking with Mike, the dyno was calibrated to think the car was 3625 lbs. When I was NA, 1/4 tank of gas and me in it, the car weighed 3300 lbs. I'm thinking the car gained 150 lbs tops with everything I did. This could be why the dyno was reading so low and maaaaybe the weird dips over 5800 rpm. From what he described, it puts a heavier load on the rollers based on weight.

Gay :icon14: something is funky somewhere for sure. Interesting to know what the deal is.

Ron 10-31-2013 11:03 AM

11.00:1 AFR is a little rich but not "pig" rich. I know turbo and sc tunes are different but at WOT and under boost AFRs should be close to what you are seeing, shouldn't they? I am at 11.5 at WOT at 9lbs.

Yeah, I looked at it a bit closer a couple days ago and saw that it wasn't as bad as I thought. The dips in the AFR corrospond with the dips in power. But it looks closer to 12. I'd prefer 12.6-12.8 with meth going, IDK. Thanks for the reply back.

If it's around 12 I would be happy with that. Remember the leaner you are the more danger you possibly and eventually will run into. Of course you already know that

Thinking of selling my CS V2 fenders. Wife doesn't care for them.

I noticed when in hauling a$$, I can smell rubber, not coming from the tires. I'm thinking it's the belts. Anyone else notivce that before? Also one of my pulleys look slightly tweaked, gonna double check when I get a chance and snap a pic.

I love the V2 fenders. I'd keep em! (I like the look of the RS1 Vented Fenders a bit more though )

SS_Firehawk 11-09-2013 11:07 AM

Well, one of my belts is shredding and I believe it's from that tweaked pulley. Will post pics in a few

And the pulley failed and belt is off. Car still drives normally at low speed luckily, I didn't hear the belt break or the pulley fail, it just did. I was only a couple miles from home when it happened so no big deal. Just a lot of rubber in my engine bay i need to clean now.

Update: Sam called me and told me he's going to send a transport vehicle to bring it back to GTM and see what's going on. This is a big relief and I'm definitely happy to hear they are going to take care of things. I'm still 100% happy with everything, and I'm sure it will be fixed. Got burned by the mod fire, but thankfully, not catastrophic.

Also, to answer Sgt Goldy's question below, no update on when I will get her back. I'm hoping by the 23rd. That's when I'll be back home again.

SgtGoldy 11-09-2013 07:38 PM

Dang, any idea when you'll get her back?

Orestp 11-10-2013 12:17 PM

That one is pretty easy to get at - looks like it just got loose which put it off kilter and then it just went downhill from there.

I had one of the main drive belt idlers seize up but caught it in time - had to put another washer behind it to get it running freely - but you have to drop the rad fan to get at it - not fun.

Is that a stock rad fan? Looks quite different from mine.

Also - did GTM put on some sort of bracket to hold up the coolant reservoir?

I had to take a torch to the reservoir - heat it up and push in the corner / edge that would otherwise have been in contact with the pulley that you had fail.

Cheers

SS_Firehawk 11-10-2013 12:52 PM

Thanks for the info. The radiator and fans are upgraded. I'm sure you know, it's tight in there. I'm hoping they find a flaw in design if there is one and fix it before more of them go out to other customers. I am impressed by how quickly GTM called and made contact and by the end of the day confoirmed a transport. Not sure about the coolant reservoir, it still like in the stock location. The pulley wasnt touching anything except maybe the adapter plate on the block.

Edit 11/12/2013: Car was taken today on the transport vehicle. That's about the only good news I got. Found out my automatic CC payments are paying some other @ss hats accounts. So I have to do three notaries from my bank to get the money refunded and the bank charges me $29 for each account to stop any future payments. I'm going to the bar and eye rape some Twin Peaks servers.

Edit 11/13/2013: Car received by GTM. They called because I only gave them the fob and no key. I guess everyone gives them fob and key. Pablo also told me to call and bother them every day till I get it back lol.

Edit 11/13/2013: Sooo... NST is offering own size pulleys in their group buy. I threw myself on that list. I've been asking for the better part of 6 months lol. I love the throttle response they give and the car revs up and down so much quicker with them compared to stock. Combined with a lightweight flywheel, I'm hoping for even faster rpm response. No clue what color I want. I know GTM doesn't care for them, but I had no issues from my last set before they were removed. Not only that but I've read somewhere supercbargers help with resonant frequencies. Not sure how true, but again, I've never had any issues.

Edit 11/15/2013: GTM called and confirmed pulley failure. They are now trying to figure out if it was an isolated issue with that pulley, if there is a flaw in all of those pulleys, if it was the bolt that holds the pulley in the adapter, if it was an install issue, etc. The could have just fixed it and sent it back, but ghey would rather it not happen again and it come back to them. I agree. So I'll he checking back next week to see what's up.

paperboy42190 11-25-2013 04:34 AM

dang thats crazy for the belt to shred like that!

Mr&Mrs 11-25-2013 01:37 PM

Sorry brother I hope they get it fixed quickly for you....and for little to no out of pocket.

paperboy42190 11-28-2013 06:19 AM

any interest in getting your headlights painted or add any halos/leds while your car is in socal? :o

SS_Firehawk 12-02-2013 01:09 PM

Well I called GTM and I have good news. The car is up and running again. They will have it for another few weeks because I'm too busy to try and get it, it works out though as they have plenty of time to observe it and put some miles on her.

Unfortunately for me, this month has hit hard and I couldn't partake in black Friday or Cyber Monday deals. NST extended an offer to me and I couldn't even wing a spare $200 for the pulleys I've been waiting so long for. I'll get them when I can. Likewise my headlights. They are on my to do list.

To make things tougher on my car needs, Wifey wants an Xbox One lol. I did sell my fenders and front lip to recoup some funds. I also have two computers for sale. One has been my pride and joy for a couple years now with progressive updates, but it's time to start from scratch again. If you know anyone who needs one, I'll pay $50 for referrals.

On the upside, taxes should be pretty nice next year, and I will be filing asap. I'm hoping to knock a couple things off my car list.

WooT!!! I love my Wife. She surprised me with a car rental so I can get my car Saturday morning. We debated whether we could afford it last night. I lost and accepted the defeat of my car not being home while I was home for the holidays, so this was really nice to see.
I'll get her all cleaned up when I get home. I planned a meet at PT's Pub parking lot this Sunday. I'm glad I can bring her out again. I'll update this weekend with videos.

Your wife is so good to you. You're a lucky man. ;)

SS_Firehawk 12-23-2013 10:27 AM

So a little bit of information you guys have been asking for... I did some data logging on the car to see if all the cooling mods are working as advertised. I don't have delta's, so if there is anyone willing to note what stock temps are, by all means, post it! This is with just normal driving. Maybe a couple spurts of mild acceleration to maneuver through traffic.

Outside temps were between 45 and 50 degrees during the 20 minute drive.

Average coolant temps were about 185 degrees Fahrenheit (fans never kicked on & AC off)
Highest coolant temps were 192 degrees Fahrenheit (fans never kicked on & AC off)
Average oil temps were about 172 degrees Fahrenheit
Highest oil temps... 172 degrees Fahrenheit
Intake air temps averaged about 13-15 above ambient while in motion.
Intake air temps averaged about 20 degrees above ambient while at rest.

I also turned off my meth as temps are really cool right now and I was running low. I need to go out and buy some distilled water and mix some up.

Also for videos, let me know what you guys want and I'll try to make it happen. Only thing I know I need is a flyby.

SS_Firehawk 12-23-2013 04:48 PM

I think my temp sensor is wrong and on the cold side. It was about 70 degrees and I logged some more. Oil temps were running between 180-185. Water temps didn't change. IATs didn't change either

Not a drive by vid, but for the guys wanting 4th gear in my last vid, I obliged by giving most of 5th too. The white walk path strips are at the half mile mark. Thank you to the Wife for the vid. Apologize for the washed out lights, it recorded with my HTC One and there is a big fingerprint on the lens... I recommend a nice speaker setup or headphones with it turned up and high def, sounds better... :driving:

Yeah, he put everything together himself. I think he finished up a bit before mine, not sure tho. There are a few of us ;) Two Z's and at least three G's. One is done, the other almost, and one at GTM. The one at GTM is a built 4.2 auto with the smallest pulley. It's filled with a bunch of show crap like huge speakers, screens, oversized wheels and reupholstered interior. Dude won't even drive it much. Such a shame.

I found out there is one being built in Houston also, details I was given was built motor, twin SC by GTM, suspension, exhaust, etc. I believe they are hoping to have it done to go play at the Texas Mile in the spring.

You forgot to mention that G is built with a 4.2 stroker and a fully built transmission stage 4 from GTM. Solid blueprint if you ask me. Fully built top to bottom.

That show crap still can spank some a** with all that bunch of crap in the car. HAHA
Oversized wheels really? They are 20" HRE. In the summer I will have a new set of wheels for daily driving and the HRE will be for show only.

Dude won't even drive it much. The car is not a trailer queen. It will be driven to car show all over the east coast. Once we clear bra the car. Also I will show local with our car club Ohio G Club '"OGC" and anywhere Tuningwerks Competition "TWC" need me to show. ;)

Such a shame not really. If you ever own or have a show car. You know how much hard work keeping the car perfect and clean and being different. It's all worth being one of a kind.

No need to get defensive. As you said the car is a show car. Mine looks stock, all the way down to the radio. And when is it going to be done? I want to know what that thing can do!

Anyways, here is a question. When I mash the gas, I can smell rubber from the belt. I see black marks on my tensioner pulley. I also notice the RPM will hang a bit, usually around 6k-6.5k rpm, then take off. It's noticable in 2nd, not so much in 3rd. I don't see the belt getting shredded or a bent pulley like before, but it concerns me. It still runs super strong, more so than before the pulley gave. This car is really loving he cold weather. I felt my car get squirly n 4th the other day, I was a bit surprised. I need some better tires...

I was also able to see Infamous's new ride! He has a BP turbo kit on a stock tune. Car and kit looks super clean! It was awesome hearing the turbo do it's work. He was able to hang with me, I imagine that would be some tough competition with a tune. I'm hoping I can ride shotgun one day :) Lastly, I had to get a bit juvanile and get my Wife to take a video of me playing in a tunnel. Nothing too much, but ooooohhhhhh sooooo worth it!

Edit: Camera angle still being fixed
