Maybe you can ask the techs there for their thoughts/opinions on what the best mods would be if one were not able to do all that work. |
Regardless of how much it puts down it'll higher then most NA 370z's!!

How could the parts he installed be dissapointing? We know he isn't putting out 530whp like turboes do. He might just make 370-390ish and even then thay would be above average from an N/A 370z. Hell even if he made 340whp thay would still be above average. Yeah the cost wasn't pretty for that amount of power but we do know it'll last longer then a force inducted 370z putting out 530. I like this build. Seems like a safe build for a car like this. Its a win win for him.

OK-been avoiding this because don't want to be a downer all the time
It's the next day now so I won't feel so guilty in expressing my thoughts.
I avoided explaining my last 2 posts here. Let's compare the car to our bodies. First I'm not into doing major heart surgery or heart transplant to a healthy heart. ("low mileage relatively new car). Leaving that aside, if you had to do major heart surgery you would NOT be the one picking/choosing the heart parts used.("new cams, than changed mind & got different cams") Also you would not let your neighborhood general practitioner do brain or heart surgery.("local dealership building a race engine"). Whether it's stock car or formula car racing, the driver does not decide/instruct what & how to build the engine. Most he can do is offer suggestions. The engine built would also not be done by the local gas station but by the best racing engine builders you can find. I hope I'm mistaken & the car is fine & a great success, and my comments sound stupid & foolish. |
I never thought those cams would make significant gains anyways. Not gains worth the 5k he spent total on the build, or however much he spent. But we wont know till he posts up the numbers. He already said the build would have been worth it if he doesn't hit his goal of at least 350whp. I would have rather tried an HR head swap with some aggressive cams. But no matter what, VVEL is always going to be the achilles tendon on this car. And I doubt they'll ever be any cams worth installing on this platform. But lets just wait and see the numbers he made.

Ok guys, I spent all day at the dyno yesterday. More tuning is needed for the cams. The dyno graph shows a roller coaster. The tech is working with all his sources to figure out why the graph is doing this. He has never seen this before. I am happy with the throttle response and the overall tuning so far. The average peak hp was 300 and the torque was averaged at 264. Yes a little disappointed on the numbers but with more tuning I know I can achieve the power levels that I want. I know if people look at this this will discourage them from doing this build but with everything I am still very happy. I forgot to add that the dyno was a dyno pack. I take a look at the graph I have a lot more tuning to do as you can see. The temp was 93 degrees also.

There's a point where your really limited to how many NA mods you can do before it falls flat on its face. Cams IMO only benefit if you have a full head job (lol) NA and really help with big power numbers on FI projects.

Demmit, I hope at least hit 330...
