Is it easy (easier?) to get the manifolds off with the radiator and support out of the car? I need to remove mine and wrap them...
Do you have more photos of the disassembly process you followed to get to the point pictured as well as what parts are needed for the delete? (Exactly which belts/pulleys etc?) Thanks man! Quote:

I'll get more pics by the end of the week. I keep my car at my dads house cause that's where all our tools are. But it's really simple. Once the bumpers and crash beam are off its mostly just bolts to remove the shroud. Course you have harness to unclip, hood latches, and the horns. Seems like a lot but it's not bad at all.
The belt you need is Dayco part number 5070500. Will have to order from Advance Auto. They do not stock this nor does any other company offer that size we could find. But I'll get you more pics. I just so into working that I don't stop. But yes taking the shroud off makes gettin the headers off and on a hole lot easier. |
Cool, from the photos it looks so open that, especially with the compressor out of the way, I could potentially wrap them while they're still on the car.
Thanks again and looking forward to the photos! Quote:

Just ordered the headers and TP's for my car from Z1.
Because I have to use 350Z Test Pipes in order for the headers to work my GTM TP's will be going up for sell if anyone wants to buy. |

Momentum Headers, Z1 Test Pipes, AC Delete
Now I'm starting to get things done. Last weekend I started on removing the AC and then after seeing my buddy Mike go for Momentum headers and gaining 30+whp and losing 16lbs from the headers alone I was all in. I couldn't order fast enough. So come today I got the new headers and test pipes on. Will be picking up a CSF radiator this week and then car will go for a alignment and tune to get this baby back to life. I haven't enjoyed this car in two months.
I'd also like to thank the love of my life for helping me all day. I really think she's hooked now. Radiator core support off. Makes getting the AC and exhaust manifold off a breeze. http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...Removal011.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...Removal014.jpg AC removed http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...Removal013.jpg Compare the pic above to see what two pullies I removed. http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/.../ACBelt002.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/.../ACBelt005.jpg Momentum Headers http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...Headers008.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...Headers010.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...Headers009.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...Headers012.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...eaders2003.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...eaders2004.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...eaders2005.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...eaders2006.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...eaders2007.jpg And my sexy woman working on my car. 3 Thumbs up

Awesome SPOHN. So any issues with fitment with the headers? It looks like in one of your pictures the header is real close to rubbing on the engine mount. Also, these momentum headers don't come with any gasket, did you just reuse the old ones?

... so would the flanges on DE test pipes match up on the other end with a 370Z cat back ?

Love this build, its come together nicely 2nd time around.
Momentum headers eh, I have been hearing a bit more about them lately....guess I have to do some reading. Again, great work! |
Nice work on documenting the pulley / belt stuff for the AC, I'll be going down that road sometime early next year :).
Re: header<->block gaskets: the stock engine-side ones are solid copper metal gaskets and they're virtually indestructable, it should never be a problem to re-use them when putting on headers. |
Great job SPOHN!
I'm happy for you that this whole thing is working out for the better. |

Awesome pics. Chad is the man. Your car looks very good.

SPOHN, looking at your mod list it doesn't look like you have aftermarket clutch/flywheel? Any plans in the future to upgrade?

Finished up installing my CSF radiator today and fired her up for the first time in weeks. Boy the new headers sound great. Real mean. I love it. Man my car pulls harder now. It's amazing. Can't wait to get it tuned. Plus with the weight removed from the AC and stock manifolds which is 30+ lbs.
Also notice in the pics below how I removed all the hood latching, panels, and cables reducing a OK amount of weight (about 5lbs). I will be removing the middle section I left for I needed it to stay until I make a custom bracket to brace the upper portion of my oil cooler. I installed AeroCatch hood pins to hold hood. I'll post pics of those tomorrow. Ran out of day light. http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...yandCSF007.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...yandCSF008.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...yandCSF009.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...yandCSF010.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...yandCSF014.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...yandCSF011.jpg New Z1 Radiator Hoses http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...yandCSF013.jpg |
nice!

Man, with that new radiator, oil cooler and vented hood I bet you never see high temps at the track!
|
Put the cover panels back on or fab one up. Not having that panel will actually hinder your engine's cooling ability, unless you plan on building a custom radiator duct from the Stillen fascia's opening to the radiator.

Without these panels air pressure will fill up the fender wells or engine bay without passing through the radiator. |
Why is it some of the race teams dont run them nor did they have any other form of directing air? I'll keep a eye on things.
|
Brian Kleeman uses a stock one that has been sealed up with tape. SFR Enterprises has built sheet metal replacements that are completely sealed off along with custom made sheet metal ducting.
I am not sure about Doran's RC. It may have full ducting. But I know for a fact that it still retains that panel. |
Do you have pics of Brains setup? New prodject. Yes!!

I've already came up with a shroud that's going to work perfect IMO. I love this sh!t.

Aero Catch Hood Pins
Installed hood pins. What better way to rid weight than removing all the stock panels, three hood latches, and cables.

Hey were you running stock headers before the momentums?
|
Yes I was.
