DELETING THIS BS. BULKY OVER WEIGHT DANGEROUS FOR YOUR KNEES.

SPOHN 12-28-2013 03:48 PM

Have lost another 28 lbs off the car up front. Main wire harness was removed of all pointless wiring that a racecar doesn't need. Started car back up today. Still running great. Next weekend my buddy will be finishing up full cage but adding more reinforcement. Custom steering column made. Deleting main bulky gauge pod and will be running Tach only. Seat will be mounted to floor as low as possible. Mine was to high. Never liked it. Also he will be performing corner balance and track alignment.

travisjb 12-28-2013 04:31 PM

looks good.

did you use lizard skin (rubber stuff)? still haven't done that to mine. i like that it helps cut noise and heat, but not sure about adding the weight in a semi-permanent way.

still owe you pics of the brackets, will try to do that tomorrow sorry

SPOHN 12-28-2013 04:35 PM

I used something different. But striping some of it this week.

Travis I think your going to like the steering column I'm having made.

Super Werty 12-28-2013 07:25 PM

At what point is it not street legal or street safe or did you already cross that point?

Looks awesome so far!

SPOHN 12-28-2013 07:31 PM

Already crossed that point. It's all in how much your willing to risk. I've seen plenty if guys drive there racecars to shows. All it would of take is someone lightly bumping you and slamming your head into the side if the roll cage.

wstar 12-28-2013 08:19 PM

^ That's when it's trailer time, IMHO :)

cool. look forward to seeing that... did the same on mine for the reasons you said, simplify and get rid of the b-s / weight. just a simple steel rod with splines... rolls through a custom bracket that allows up/down ratcheting

That's how this is going to be.

wstar 12-29-2013 07:17 AM

The steering column's on my list too, but my fabrication skills probably aren't up to task for it, I may have to farm it out to Lucas here in town or something :)

Shadezz 12-29-2013 10:15 AM

God loves you..what an amazing adventure.

SPOHN 12-30-2013 08:58 AM

Ordered Spek Tachnometer. 5". Deleting OEM gauge display. It's big bulky and will definitely been in the way of my vision due to mounting seat to the floor. Fastest drivers are the most comfortable ones. Will not be running speedometer or gas gauge. Because?

Have you considered running an mxl, motec, or something similar? I've been kicking around the idea of replacing the gauge cluster with that. Saw it in Kevin Parlett's G and it fit really well.

SPOHN 12-30-2013 09:23 AM

It's just so expensive when adding all the sensors. I do like Kevin car. It is sweet. Course when I add up what I have in gauges it's about half way. Plus it has more functions.

wstar 12-30-2013 10:48 AM

I don't think you can run e.g. Motec with VHR heads either, at least not easily for controlling VVEL and all that, right?

djtodd 12-30-2013 11:17 AM

Good question. I was mainly thinking for datalogging with aim, but isn't Vvel controlled by a piggyback unit?

SPOHN 12-30-2013 11:41 AM

I believe there is little adjustment threw Uprev but some are scared of it. Z1 plays with a little. But for data logging would be nice. Not sure all about the options are offered with that system. Or if it even plays a role in tuning.

wstar 12-30-2013 12:29 PM

Oh I was referring to Motec as a full replacement ECU hooked up to the stock sensors/controls, I thought that's what you two were talking about.

SPOHN 12-30-2013 02:16 PM

I believe it's more of a all in one data box for all your heads up display. Plus some.

Sh0velMan 12-30-2013 02:24 PM

They make both.

wstar 12-30-2013 02:36 PM

Yeah I was talking about something like this: MoTeC > M800 > Overview

SPOHN 12-30-2013 08:41 PM

Rear quarter panel windows removed. Will be replacing with lexan also. Doors fully gutted to the max.

http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...pszccc8xym.jpg

wstar 12-30-2013 09:36 PM

Those rear quarters look like great places to mount NACA ducts, I think travisjb had a scoop on one of his with a NACA underneath, or something, but IMHO just the NACA opening by itself would be good and less wind resistance. I think in the long run I might put one on each side, and run one fresh air hose down towards the trunk area for diff cooler airflow, and use the other as fresh air flow for a Cool Shirt type system and/or helmet duct.

sig11 12-30-2013 09:56 PM

Haven't had them off the 370 but man are the doors heavy on the 350. So much to be gained there!

Mike 12-31-2013 09:04 AM

the 370 doors are much lighter than the 350.

They're not steel are they? Ours are aluminium.

Mike 01-02-2014 07:33 PM

yeah, I had to replace one after a mishap at VIR and we were shocked at how little they weigh. Aluminum FTW!

I'm still blown away though how heavy the car is!! Aluminium doors, hatch and hood, carbonish driveshaft, radiator support, and other things I'm sure, and still weighed more than my 4dr AWD WRX with heavy steel everything.

SPOHN 01-03-2014 07:11 PM
