What engine oil are you guys using in your track cars?

SPOHN 01-06-2013 04:07 PM

Nothing special. I just run Mobil 1 cause I feel it's good and it's usually on sale somewhere. I change oil befor and after track days.

I'm on red line right now buy I think I might buy a case of cheap filters and start doing Pennzoil Ultra. It's what I put in my MS3, it's generally $25 for 5 quarts.

That way I can just change it really often.

I run RedLine as well. I change it about every 4 track days. I analyze every few changes to make sure I'm not running it too long.

Anyone have experience running the Motul race oil? Saw it on forged performances website.

I just started using Valvoline VR1 race oil. Even though the high zinc oils are more for flat tappet engines, some research I have done shows its good for high revving OHC engines too. Has to be changed every 3-500 miles though, so every other track day. Still, I can buy it at the local auto parts store instead of having to order it like the other race oils.

We ran VR1 in my old 3000GT VR4. It was popular for that platform at the time, helped maintain consistent oil pressure under load.

We ran it way longer than 500miles tho...

I got the 500 mile suggestion from my friends at LG Motorsports. They are more V8 stuff, but still a great source of info. I'm guessing I could push it out further, and if I happen to have three track weekends in a row, probably will

Could very well be right, no idea. We just treated it like normal oil, ran it 2500-3000 miles or so depending on what we were doing.

We use it in just about every car that comes to the shop. We always run it in out 750hp OLOA car, haven't had a single issue.

I've been using Motul's 300V in 5W30 and 5W40, works great for me :)

Any more info/pics on the hood pins?

SPOHN 01-12-2013 12:41 PM

Light Weight Hood

Talking about seriousness. I took all the hood bracing on my hood out. Good for 10+ pounds of weight from the front of the car and from up top. Much more to come guys. Hatch and doors.

I going to the body shop Friday to have the underside finished.
