It was a hot day. I don't know if the wheel got well over 400 degrees, or if this formulation of powdercoat can't take as much heat as the other colors I use, but the powdercoat actually melted at the hub and discolored on the spokes after a couple of hot sessions at Barber. You can see where it spread out and ran onto the rotor.

Hope its not too hard to remove the wheels now.

dang. crazy.

Mike, you're famous!

Mike 08-11-2011 03:17 PM

what was it? Video was removed

SPOHN 08-11-2011 03:34 PM

It was just a split second of you car on the track.

Mike 08-11-2011 05:29 PM

Ok, thought it was something embarrassing! Wonder why they took it down

SPOHN 08-11-2011 05:32 PM

Not sure. It looked like a ZCON vid that was being put together.

Mike 09-15-2011 07:42 PM

Its been a long time since I updated.

These were supposed to be winter projects, but my bumper was out of control from scraping and wearing the bottom out and then scraping the undertray at the track, so I decided to do a bit before Z nationals.

1. Replaced my modshack oil cooler with the Z1 34 Row:
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/3757/dsc01123v.jpg

2. The Z1 kit doesn't require cutting fender liners, and mine, along with several other plastic under pieces were really screwed up from my accident at VIR, and the low scraping, so all new plastic in the front end. Everything damaged was either replaced with new or used parts from Z1.
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/5161/dsc01131ea.jpg

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/1166/dsc01132au.jpg

3. While I was at it, repowdercoated the strut brace metallic black and my Gen 3 in my custom orange color
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/9116/dsc01124pi.jpg

http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/949/dsc01127i.jpg

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/5057/dsc01128ls.jpg

4. Uninstalled aftermarket stereo and laser shifters, so I decided to take most of the rear interior out in preparation for phunk's much awaited fuel system upgrade and am just going to leave it out.

I should have my new Stillen bumper back from paint on Monday or Tuesday, just in time for Znats, but I don't think my seat mounting bases will be here in time.

New set of 295/40-18 Hoosiers arrive on Monday also, hopefully that will raise the car enough to stop scraping since I've been running 275/35 and 285/30s.

Also have seat bases on order from Wedge Engineering so I can finally install the seats I bought a few months ago.

ChrisSlicks 09-15-2011 07:46 PM

Nice!

Mike 09-15-2011 07:50 PM

btw, I am loving the Stoptech Trophy system I got from Forged Performance! The XP12s are a bit much when I run the AD-08s, but perfect with R compounds.

Looking forward to the hoosiers, I've always gone cheaper on the race rubber since it doesn't last too long.

SPOHN 09-15-2011 08:24 PM

Do you already have a harness? And if so where will be your mounting points for the shoulders?

Stoptech= sexy.

HKYStormFront 09-15-2011 08:55 PM

lookin' good mike! can't wait to see it next week!

not yet, but the seats themselves will hold me in better. the side mounts have a provision for removing the seat belt receiver from the factory seat and putting it on the bracket, so that will work for now.

Can't wait to finally see this Beast in person.

Sexy red lips.

Mike 09-21-2011 10:09 PM

Orange!

Mike 09-21-2011 10:10 PM

and I made the main grill front mount, so I can take it off as needed to access the oil cooler or anything else that may need a little work.

cptspeed 09-21-2011 10:17 PM

His stickers support Nissan while some are for advertisement for his business and one which has symbolic meaning. Plus it's just a track car. A bada$$ track car. Lol.

Mike 09-22-2011 08:47 AM

that, and the stickers let me write the car and all my track events and mods off as advertising expense.

SPOHN 09-22-2011 11:26 AM

^ really. That's a plus.

mr_sk 09-22-2011 03:24 PM

Dope build - looks good, nice to see you doing your own thing. Keep it going.
How's the road noise w/the rear interior removed? I'm thinking about doing the same just to gain some additional space ...

I don't know. I haven't driven it on the street without the interior. I will a little for ZNationals this weekend, but its not really street driven.

Mike 04-24-2012 07:28 PM

Haven't updated this thing in a while!

Got the Stillen cooling kit installed today. Went to change brake pads and reinstall my calipers and realized they needed a rebuild, so those parts are now on order and the car will be back on the road Friday.

http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/797/ductcloseup.jpg

On the drivers side, I routed the hose just above the firewall, behind the fenderliners.
http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/5800/lefthose1.jpg

Used a 2" hole saw to cut a hole in one of the panels behind the liner to smoothly get the hose back to the outside

The right side has stuff on the frame rail and is too close to the exhaust, so it went partially inside the wheel well, then out again. I also relocated my powersteering fluid lines to get them out of the way, but you cant see that here.

Three of my Nismo S-tune wheels that will be my new street wheels. Have a set of Ventus V-12s waiting to mount on them. 4th wheel is cooling in the shop, just out of the oven
