Hey Rusty, I'm very interested to hear your impression and opinion on the SPL bushing....I didn't order them since the difference may be too minute for novice like me to realize, but on the other hand I may as well do it while car is under the knife, save on alignment and labor cost... |

^ I read some basic comments here and there about stock rubber bushing vs aftermarket ones, but I never have any graphical illustration that would demonstrate it in flesh...
Found this, very interesting, link below, go to post #19 video LG MOTORSPORTS Coil Overs and Mono Ball Bushings Review - Corvette Forum Didn't know stock rubber bushing can move that much. I am reconsidering adding the bushings and just bite the bullet all together. |
Video from the forum thread he's talking about above:

Ordered more parts from from Mike at corner3garage. :D The Hotchkis sway bars and the the SPL end links for both front and rear sway bars.

My Hotchkis sway bars came in. So I installed the front bar and did a oil change too tonight. It was time for that. I'll install the rear bar tomorrow night. My end links didn't come in. So I'll install them when I do the SPL arms and bushing.
When installing the front bar. Look at how the stock bar is bent before you remove it. This way, you can install the new bar right side up, not up side down. ;) Here's a couple of pictures to show the difference between the stock Nismo bar and the Hotchkis bar. |

When I was jacking the Nismo up. Seen my lower spoiler. It's a mess again. :shakes head: This is the second one.

Ok, got the rear Hotchkis sway bar installed. I have it set to the softest setting. Tomorrow, I'll take it out for a test ride, after I get back from buying something BIG.

Nice updates. Keep up the good work.
Have any ideas to protect the front undertray? Looks like the curbs at the track are tearing it up pretty good. |

I've had water over the hood, so that's why of the snorkel. Suspension wise. Have Carli control arms, track bar, and springs in the front. In the rear, Carli long travel air bags. Had 2.5 King shocks on it. Now have custom valved Bilstein 7100's on it. The Power Wagon sits about 2" higher then a stock 2500. With the Carli springs in front. My front sits about 1" higher then a stock Power Wagon. The front axle has RCV axles, Carli ball-joints, and a Dynatrack freespin hub kit. The wheels are forged CenterLines.Tires are Toyo 35's. I've done most of the trails in Moab with it. :D Go out to Rausch Creek a lot too. :driving: |
Sweet Rusty...

Okay have a few things to say here..
First: Quote:
Second: Do you ever get people asking you what that is on the side of your truck? Haha. That's one well done truck. Third: All I can say about your build is wow. :tiphat: I've used your journal a few times as reference when it comes to trying to decide what route to take with my Nismo. I must admit what you've done is not only well done, but also a great choice of mods and execution (Not that I know much haha). I plan on mostly using the nismo as a track whore, but for now its my DD so I can't do much with it. I have followed your mods, and have a question or two if you have time to answer.. First, do you notice the car being weighted down by the large tires? A lot of people tend to avoid such wide tires since the weight (rather inertia they have) tend to make the car slow down a lot more when off the throttle. How do you feel it affected it in your case? Sort of related, did you also fit a tpms on those monsters? Next, the Robispec harness bar. I have been looking into a mounting solution for a 4/5/6 point harness. I haven't seen if you particularly have mounted it. How is the bar holding up now? I will probably order one in the near future. Last thing, the breaks! MONSTERS! How much difference did they make on the track? I also read you went for more aggressive pads later on. How much difference do they make, and did you have to adapt the ABS system? Would you consider having a bypass switch for the ABS to allow for more aggressive stopping? All in all Rusty. Love your rides. You have talent sir. |

Pic's of the inside. :D It sleeps 6, has a king size bed, has 2 bathrooms. The shower is big enough for two people.

Yea, I've had people ask me about the snorkel. When I tell them I've had the truck in water over the hood. They give me this look. I really don't notice the tires much. I do know they stick well. Think it's part of my driving style, and what I'm comfortable with. I do have the TPMS installed in the tires. The Robispec mounts the same way the factory crossbar mounts. It's a lot stronger then the factory bar. Zero trouble with it. I don't have a harness mounted yet. Want to do that when I get seats. Brakes. I still have the YellowStuff pads installed. I'll change those out early next spring. Want to put some street miles on them before the change. Thinking 10's in the front and 8's in the rear. The Racing Brake rotors have been great. With the cold air brake ducts, 2 piece rotors, stainless brake lines, and Motul 600 brake fluid. No mods needed to the ABS. For better stopping. I would need stronger brake calipers. Brembo or APRacing. What I'm running into now is the traction control and Yaw sensor. With the traction control turned off. I can still feel it at times. The Yaw sensor has tried the straighten the car up a time or 4 by applying a brake or 2 in a turn. Turn 7 at Pittsburgh International is a right hand turn that runs down hill off camber. When the Yaw sensor kicks in on that turn. It scared the crap out of me the first couple of times. Had an instructor in the car, about ready to hit me. Said that I hit the brakes in that turn. Had to show him on my GoPro that I didn't. |

And in you personal opinion, what would you recommend doing first to the car to make it better for the track. I personally was thinking of doing simply safety (harness bar, seats, 6 pt harness) then stopping (breaks, pads,) and lastly performance. What do you think? |

First time doing track days? The way I'm doing it. 1-brakes, 2-oil cooling, 3-tires, 4-increase your skill level, 5-handling, 6-engine cooling, 7-LSD, 8-lightweight clutch. I would start with replacing the brake hoses with stainless hose lines. Bleed the brakes and use something like Motul 600 brake fluid. Change your brake pads to something more inline with doing track days. YellowStuff is fine for starting out and doing DD. Oil cooler. Tires. Stock tires will do for now. LONG as they have good tread on them. Get sticky tires later, after your have worn these out. Get yourself a good helmet. The 6 point harness, and seats. I would wait. Get your feet wet first before spending a lot of money. I've seen guys do one track day, and call it quits. Can't do the speed on the track,:icon14: but can do it on the street. They get all pissed off because someone in a Miata is passing them every couple of laps. LOL |

 Good Ole switch it is. And I've done an event already. It was actually autocross. I enjoyed the heck out of it, even my work heat. Got one of the experienced guys to let me ride with him in his 2001 M3, and he rode along with me in my first runs. And yes, miatas and mini's will blitz past me (in terms of time :icon17:). I do like your idea of brakes, cooling, tires, and more exp. :tiphat: You sir are awesome. |
