Very Nice
Thanks :tiphat:
I have a few goodies here/on the way that I'm hoping to get installed in the next two weeks as soon as it warms up a bit again. One of them is pretty... different lol. Should help keep me clear of tickets this summer though! Edit: Also, the ARP studs are now getting cut down for sure. I had changed my mind and was going to run them at full length, however the Project Kics R40 Revo lugs, which are advertised as being open-ended with detachable caps, are not truly open ended. Once you pop the caps off, it becomes 'open ended' in style only, the studs cannot protrude from the end as there is an extra piece of metal in there to secure the caps. For this reason, and in order to be able to use the lugs with the caps on as I originally wanted to, I'm taking 1.25" off the studs. At least now I can install the ARP rear studs without taking the hubs off. |
Finally parts are starting to come in :excited: Another couple weeks, and it will live again for the summer!

He was referring to you having to cut your arp studs.
Sounds like it wouldve saved you a ton of time and money.

Ahh yes, then I could have left them full length but they would have poked out the end of the lugs and I don't like how that looks. All good, it's done now!

There is no way those are ARP studs at full length on that wheel... It would look like this, which is what mine would have looked like:

There are actually 3 sections: floor mount/base, sliders, side mounts and they bolt together in that order. You could get away with mounting the side brackets directly to the base I suppose however you'd need to make sure it was set at the perfect driving position for you as you would have no adjustment. You cannot bolt the seat directly from the bottom to the floor.
Yeah I know that. I was thinking base to floor and base to bottom of the seat that has a lower mount point along with side mounts. Or the side rails welded to floor and then bolted to seat. Just want as little weight as possible and cheapest price.
The side mounts and base will not make any discernible difference in weight. The seats are $1800 each as well, so another 10% to have it mounted properly isn't bad IMO. That said some people do like to ditch the sliders for a more secure install in the event of a crash at the track (sliders are prone to fail in those situations) and that makes sense to me. The holes that are in the seats now you would have to use as they are because there is simply no good way to make another attachment point on the seat itself. But ya, you could totally modify the base or mount the side brackets directly to the floor, there is enough clearance for that.

The floor isn't flat so you will need a base or to build up the flood one way or the other... Our floor sucks a whole lot.
That's true. I guess I'll just buy the base. Bolt the seat to it even if I need to drill holes if the base holes don't line up. Then if the seats to low or something I may just have to spring for the side rails to raise it up and use the side mount holes.
I wound up having a custom base made since I'm tall.. The Planted base was too high and wasn't even level.
Yup planted bases = junk. Either go custom or get the Wedge Engineering base and modify that.
Just noticed planted base says nothing about FIA but the side mounts do. So seems my plans have changed once again.
Yes. The side mounts are made by Status, so they get them certified like the seats. The bases are made by other companies so that is out of their control. (And the sliders would be out of the question for certification). Not sure if the base would have to be listed as FIA certified or as long as the mounting complied with regs it would suffice. You see many cars with custom fabricated mounts, cages, etc competing and it's not like those are 'certified'. They just conform to a certain standard. At least that is my limited understanding of it.

Hurry up and change out that crappy b&m shifter already... :stirthepot:

Ok, update time:
Since the last update, the majority of the work that I have done has been interior cosmetic. I did get the TWM short shifter installed to replace the B&M and the shifts are much smoother now. As a result of that, I switched back to the Nismo CF shift knob from the PWJDM ball one. I prefer the feel of it and it matches the interior better too. I changed from the Black Chrome OEM emblems to matte black dipped emblems, fits a lot better with the theme of the car now. Also once all the ARP studs were cut down and installed, I switched to the Project Kiks R40 Revo lug nuts with red end caps. Some minor engine bay stuff, installed the Stillen Grounding Kit in Red, and the HKS radiator cap and oil filler cap. Had the battery and clutch covers hydrodipped, but I'm not happy with how they came out, so I'll eventually be replacing them and the radiator core cover with the CF pieces. I installed the Titanium brake pad shims for the front brakes to replace the factory shims. Changed out my pads to Carbotech XP10/XP8 but after a few weeks went to XP8's all around. For the interior, I had several parts recovered in black Alcantara by JPM coachworks, they did absolutely amazing work and I would recommend them to anyone. They did the white stitching to match the factory parts as well. Parts I had done were the shift boot, shifter ring trim, navigation surround, gauge pod hats. I will be having them do the main gauge cluster hat as well over this winter which will complete the interior work. I installed the CF tach cover and shifter trim from Carbon Signal. I also had the steering wheel redone by Tony at Carbon Fiber Element and got the CF window switch panels from him. As always, his work was outstanding. Replaced the factory vinyl kneepads with the Alcantara ones from the roadster. Other minor things, got the Z1 SS clutch line finally added, switched Radar Detectors from the 9500ix to the Excort Redline, did the DIY cold air ducting mod for the Stillen Gen 3's. Installed a remote controlled licence plate cover as well! Also opened up the headlights to fix the area where the plastic had been melting. I also bought a house this summer and got married, then totally finished the garage - drywall, paint, floor epoxy, cabinets, lighting and heat. Had to make a nice home for the Z! I installed some philips hue directional spotlights so I could accent the Z when it was parked, and picked up the 40th anniversary car cover. It was a busy year to say the least!
